I had laser done with my plastic surgeon last year. I had a good amount of chin hair that increasingly became worse over the years. I was spending $50-70 a month having my whole face waxed(chin-brows-sides-upper lip). That was a weekly process for me as I did not like to shave my face.
(No one ever knew I had this problem because I could not stand to see hair on my face. I probably waxed way too much.) With this procedure, although an investment, it gives you your life back. I actually feel pretty not only about the inside but who I see in the mirror.
I had 10 laser treatments which have cost me to this point $1500. I am so pleased with the results and highly suggest anyone who has this problem...get it done.
The pain was mild (upper lip the worse) but it gets easier as the treatments progress. My skin is so soft and clear now. I have not had an acne issue but my skin always felt rough in texture with all the waxing. Now its as soft as a new born babies tushi.
Regrowth-very very few if any-touchup is now $35 a session if needed.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I started in sept 2004 and my last appointment is May 4th - plus possible touch ups every 6 months How many actual treaments did you receive?
8 + test patch Area treated?
Face (I had a man's full beard going on) What color is the hair that was being treated?
Dark and corse hair What color/shade is your skin?
White Do you know what setting the technician used?
Started at 34 and now up to 48 What were/are your results?
Some minor regrowth but other than that, the hair has grown back velvety / peach fuzz like. (some hairs are longer than others though) How much did it cost?
$168/session for 5 sessions and 3 at $79 - some areas needed less treatement therefore the cost was reduced (canadian prices) Would you do it again?
Absolutely... I want my thighs done..
I'm even sorry i have waited so long to start treatement on my face Did insurance cover any of it?
No - this is considered estetic... but I can honestly say it was the best investment of my life! Comments:
The treatments have changed my life drastically. This new found confidence is amazing.

Points: 767.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 767.00 | i have had 8 treatments of IPL. I had my whole face and neck zapped. My facial hair is a frustrating mix of fair vellous , course black and course white hairs. my understanding of IPL and laser is that they are only effective on dark hairs. But I was given a solution called 'Meladine' which supposedly dyes the root of the hair of the fairer hairs thus enabling those hairs to be also zapped."meladine is very expensive in Australia $300 PER BOTTLE . I used about 4 or 5 of these bottles of solution over the 8 treatments. Now to the results; pretty disappointing. Most of the dark hair was definately reduced or completely disappeared, but I have noticed more of the finer dark hairs have turned courser. No difference noticed with the blonde hairs. But saying that I didnt know at the time, that my hormones were so completely out of whack and my doctor says that it will never work effectively until I have those but to normal. So I will try again. |

The Quantum SR http://www.aesthetic.lumenis.com/pdf/Quantum_SR_datasheet
How long ago and for what duration? Today was my first treatment. I had my entire cheeks( some random dark coarse hairs on my cheeks)...below my face where my face and neck meet (dark coarse hairs here)...Entire chest (dark coarse hair around both nipples, and in between breast I have about 7 dark coarse hairs)...entire abdomen (lower abdomen there are random dark coarse hairs) the rest of my abdomen is just coverd in hair but its not course, theres just too much of it for a girl, and the same goes for anywhere I am saying I got done but I dont mention that the hair is course...my entire back (no coarse hairs, just a lot of the thin stuff)
How many actual treaments did you receive? Today was my first...I will be going in for at least 3 more for every area.
What color is the hair that was being treated? Everything is black...the coarser hair is obviously the blackest, the thinner hairs are still very dark
What color/shade is your skin? I am naturally an olive skin tone...Persian...so a light natural tan
Do you know what setting the technician used? 36
What were/are your results? I have noticed some of the hairs are already burned and can just be rubbed right off. This is obvious on my face, because I didn't shave it before I went in. The rest of my body I did shave so I will just have to wait and see.
How much did it cost? For 3 treatments my total is $2500 for face, above neck, all of chest, armpits, abdomen, and entire back.
Would you do it again? I'm going to have to!
Did insurance cover any of it? I didn't bother checking, just because I know they will say it is cosmetic. And I am fortunate enought to have my parents paying for this.
PAIN: Yes, there is a slight bit of pain, but you only feel it right as it happens and maybe a few seconds after. The only "pain" is wherever the coarser hair is. For example, on my chest I have very thin hairs...so that just felt like a tiny little snap, not painful at all...nothing compared to waxing. However, my armpits were the most painful...because that is all coarse hair. It felt like a real hard rubber band snap. BUT IT IS WORTH IT!!!! If you can tolerate waxing...you will be just fine. Coarser hair=more pain.
I will update with each session!!! |

I CAN NOT be any happier, the dark hairs in my face and neck and around nipples, and chest have dissapeared. I can't believe I waited so long to do this. My armpits are amazing as well. The thinner hairs havent fallen out as much, but there is still a noticeable difference, and all this after only the 1st treatment. I am beyond happy. I will keep posting! |

Points: 284.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 284.00 | I got laser hair removal done over a year ago for what was almost a goatee on my chin. I had very thick coarse hairs and shaved everyday. And everyday the area was grey looking from where the hair holes where. I got 5 treatments of my entire chin and cheeks for$100 dollars each. I still dont have any thick coarse hairs they are dead ...once in a great while I'll get a tiny thin hair that I just pluck. If I did one more treatment I think it would be eliminated all together. Its a small price to pay to feel less like a man. Also my skin cleared up dramatically after the first treatment. |

Points: 39.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 39.00 | Feeling ready to take the laser plunge... I've been wanting to get my hair permanently removed for years. When the laser came out, I thought it was the answer... electrolysis isn't an option, I have way too much hair to remove to make that a cost or time effective option.
On Saturday, I went for a consult with Ideal Image, they are located in several states now. I told them upfront about my PCOS, and they they did not have a problem with that. I did, however, have a mole removed a couple of years ago that they want to see the pathology report for... hopefully it will be a non-issue, and they can treat me.
The cost for my upperlip and chin would be (with their holiday promotion going through Jan 31 - @ 750) That procedure is the tip of the iceberg for me... I have so many other areas that I am considering going for the full body so I can just take care of all of it. It includes 9 actual sessions on an area - plus for 1 year after they will 'zap' an area if more hairs come up. After that year, they will re-treat for $1 a pop. The full body (on promotion) is $6500 or $7700 normally. I will need to come up with the money somehow. If I win the lottery... I'll just need to think about the 2nd thing I want. This is #1.
I've tried everything, including waxing. (My Mom was so terrified at the thought of my getting my full legs waxed that she actually gave me drugs to kill the pain!)
The hair thing is the worst for me with this PCOS. Everything else is a nuisance and annoying... If someone kisses me on the cheek, I don't want to feel paranoid that my stubble is poking them!
I am ready to do this. I didn't choose this hair problem. It's sapped me of my femininity, my comfort, and my self esteem. I just want to feel normal. I want to not feel self conscious. I am sick of what it has cost me psychologically over the years.
At any cost, I am declaring war on this hair. It is no longer welcome. I just started taking Aldactone to combat the change of some normal hairs to their darker more manly cousins. Laser is next!
Thank you to all the ladies who post about their problems here... and their successes. You give me hope. |
