One of the questions would be, at 21 what sort of chin hair have you got? Has it got to the stage of being really coarse, male-type, bristly hair yet or is it just the more obvious growth that most males would have at 21 but isn't as coarse or as dark as it will eventually become? You may be expecting laser to do what laser can't do. Laser works on the color difference between the hair and the skin and the coarser and darker the hair, the more color it has and the more readily it absorbs the heat which then damages or perhaps even destroys the root of the hair.

Okay. When I look in the mirror from a few feet back you can't barely see it.. but if I step forward with a flashlight it shows that its very black and thick chin hair.. I hate the feel of it. It has a very rough feel to it. I just went for my 4th treatment. She told me that I should see patches within a week.. I really hope so. I really want a smooth feeling under my chin and neck.

It seems as my luck goes, it probably won't work. I have the worst luck.

I don't find the face any real problem -- it's so easy to shave and men's electric razors work really well on it. If it's coarse and rough, then it's male-type beard growth. No-one's going to feel my chin rough -- it's only rough to the touch first thing in the morning, before I shave. Hope the treatment works well for you, but if not, don't panic. It's not the only answer.

What kind of laser or IPL did you get?
(please include brand name or any info. you have)

Alexandrite Laser

How long ago and for what duration? On Friday (3 days ago) and about 20 minutes maybe

How many actual treaments did you receive? Only one so far

What color is the hair that was being treated? dark brown/black

What color/shade is your skin? Fair to medium

Do you know what setting the technician used? 13-15

What were/are your results? Not sure yet. She said I should notice a huge difference but I don't. I do have a lot of acne because of it and I feel like there is a lot more stubble. It seems like shaving isn't helping it either. I am hoping that stops in a few days.

How much did it cost? It was $150 CDN

Would you do it again? Yes I go back in 3 weeks for my next treatment

Did insurance cover any of it? nope

Can anyone tell me is it normal that I really dont see any results the first time? Don't get me wrong - I wasn't expecting a miracle. Its just the way she was talking that I would only need to shave it like every 3 days or so after the first treatment and thats not the case. It did seem to work very well on my upper lip. But my jaw line has a lot of acne and I find my skin is very itchy.

I am so hoping this will work. Literally it will change my life -by how I see myself and what it will do to my confidence.

How long ago and for what duration? I had laser hair removal last year, for six months.
How many actual treaments did you receive? Six treatments
What color is the hair that was being treated? black (chin & upper lip

What color/shade is your skin? Fair to medium

Do you know what setting the technician used? no

What were/are your results? My results were not very good. The tech. said that she thought maybe I had a hormonal issue that was causing the regrowth each month?
How much did it cost? Mine was $300 I think

Would you do it again? ?

Did insurance cover any of it? No

My question to everyone that it worked for is were you taking medication to control your hormone levels when you recieved your treatments? I am currently on BCP, and have recently been diagnosed PCOS (no periods unless on BCP,high testostorone, excessive hair, and classic string of pearl ovaries). But, this has been a hard diagnosis to get, because I am thin- I am 5'6", and 120 pounds. I have been prescribed metformin, but have been hesitant to start taking it. But, I think that I am going to have to start, then maybe I will try again!
I really want to get rid of it for ever-so please let me know about the hormone levels!

Hello everyone,
I am looking for a certified laser treatment center in my area. My insurance will cover it because the hair problem causes the ingrown hairs, which then causes the those piple like bumps. It has a name but I cannot remember it.
My problem has been trying to find a place who is willing to bill my insurance, as most insurances do not cover the treatments. I live in NH.

What I find so ironic is that I am now starting to lose my hair on my head, the hair on my legs and arms is thining yet the facial hair NEVER ends, which is the main place I DO NOT want it... : {

I would go to American Laser Center's website, and do a search for one in your area. I'm doing my entire body there, and my experience has been positive!

187.50$ and this was after the first, second, third treatment. I got tired of paying per zap and negotiated. This amount covers breast, chin, beard, tip of nose (those are fine hairs but slightly dark), birthline, and bikini (only the front and *some* of the sides). I really want to do more but like holy night... what about getting a sugar daddy for that. *wink* *wink* just kidding.

i finished my 6th treatment on my chin at the end of february. i had 6 treatments spaced out over one year (treatments about every 8 weeks). i know its probably too early to tell but i am THRILLED with the results. i had shedding but a lot of regrowth after the first 3 treatments and i was getting discouraged but i stuck with it. i started seeing less regrowth after the 4th treatment. after my 6th treatment, it has been almost 2 months and i have had maybe 2 hairs and they were very fine. i actually have 2 touchups as part of my package which i am supposed to get in may and then in august, but i am pregnant now so i am going to have to postpone those. honestly though, i dont think i will need them. time will tell of course.
i had my treatments done at ideal image, and i believe they use a gentlelase. the treatments were very quick but quite painful (no pain no gain!). the cost for 8 treatments was about 1000 dollars, which is expensive but i feel worth every cent.
as soon as i have my baby (in november!!) i am going to go back for more treatments on other areas. i cant wait!

What kind of laser or IPL did you get?
(please include brand name or any info. you have)

Aculight Laser Therapy (new over here in Ireland). It is FDA approved as 100% permanent hair approval, although for PCOS women this reduces to 90%, but only in some cases. It works best on fair skin/dark hair, works least on dark skin and least on fair hair.
The laser singes the hair and kills the hair follicle. Each hair follicle has a cycle which is why you need more than one treatment (also depends on the size of the area) to make sure that all hairs are got at the right time of their cycle, which is when there is protein on the follicle, because this conducts the laser right down to it.

How long ago and for what duration?
Started Sept 2006. had first round of 6 (1 per month) and am now on the second round.

How many actual treaments did you receive?
8 so far

What color is the hair that was being treated?
dark brown/black

What color/shade is your skin?
fair to medium

Do you know what setting the technician used?
started at 25 and they increase it by 2 every time I go

What were/are your results?
Brilliant. I have a lot of bald patches on my neck and chin and dont need to shave as often. after the second round it should be clear

How much did it cost?
€600 per course of 6 - Ive no idea what that is in dollars.

Would you do it again?
Definitely

Did insurance cover any of it?
Nope

What kind of laser or IPL did you get?
GentleLASE

How long ago and for what duration?
I have had two sessions, so far

How many actual treaments did you receive?
2 out of 6

What color is the hair that was being treated?
Some coarse and dark, some fine and dark

What color/shade is your skin?
Light

Do you know what setting the technician used?
The first time was 18, not sure about the second

What were/are your results?
I am sooo happy so far. I used to have to go straight home after work to shave my chin/neck. I refused to stop at the store on the way home, I almost had a goatee!!! Now, I can go without shaving for a while. Still having regrowth, as it's only my 2nd treatment. But 40-50% of the coarse hair is gone. Now the finer, dark hair... it hasn't helped with it that much (and I didn't expect it to, was hoping though). But it's so easy to just bleach or shave those hairs, so it doesn't bother me.

How much did it cost?
6 full face treatments (neck, chin, upper/lower lip, cheeks, sideburns) for $1K, with a year of free touch ups.

Would you do it again?
Am seriously considering getting a part-time job so I can do my legs and arms!!

Did insurance cover any of it?
No. But I didn't attempt to go through insurance.

I highly recommend anybody with coarse facial hair to look into laser. Just do your research!! Make sure that the right laser at the right setting is being used!! Definitely worth the money.
