Default Laser Removal Success WITHOUT Meds?

Hi all - Has anyone had good results with laser hair removal WITHOUT taking met, spiro, etc?

I am not on anything right now, which in some ways I think is a good time for LHR b/c I don't have the potential for testosterone to go up as a result of coming off of meds. I am also just trying to see where I'm at "normally" after many years of bcp, spiro, excerising more and eating better. I made an appointment w/ a new endo - I haven't seen one in a while - but that's a ways off.

Any insight you can give into LHR w/o meds is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Hiya Ceejae!

I don't take any medication for PCOS; although, I am following a low carb diet and taking vitamins. I also had a laser treatment today, and have had several (did a laser treatment package) done back in the day.

And yes, I'd say it was a success. It's been only this year that the hair started returning--and that was after a few years of being hairless.

I personally believe that PCOS makes it difficult to remain hair free forever. Although, I truly believe that lasers treatments have provided me with great hair reduction and if I keep up the treatments (every few years), the hair growth is minimal to non-existent.

I'm wishing you the best!!!

Sorry, the hair did return for me. At the time I didn't know I had a hormonal imbalance (very high testosterone level), so I guess that's why it all came back, and then some. :o( Spent a LOT of money too.

I'm currently undergoing laser treatments without having my levels under control. My dermatologist said that I should be fine. Well, I've had 5 treatments so far and the hair has thinned but, I still have to shave every other day.

My Dr. refused to prescribe spiro because she said it was dangerous Yeah, I kinda hate my Dr.

It would be like taking cough drops for whooping cough - right? Treating the symptoms without treating the cause.

I would think you'd really need to be taking some kind of meds, or controlling your IR through diet and excercise, before you start investing in laser treatments, otherwise, you won't see the progress that you could.

I seem to live at my laser tech's office :-) No really... she hired me! I suppose I've become her poster child for what laser treatments can do and the life you can get back. I remember a time not so long ago when I shaved at least once a day and my life revolved around my face... and a social life? I couldnt imagine! Now, I'm married, haven't taken a razor to my face in ages and my favorite place to be is outside in the sunshine, camping and other outdoorsy things! Life is good!

Ijust finished with my laser hair removal and I just got six months instead of the whole year that I was supposed to get because we moved. So far there's big difference but let's see what happens down the road. I'm not any meds.

thanks for your posts, ladies. i think a few years of a relatively hairless face will be worth it. if anyone's looking into it, i've been doing a lot of research and have come to a couple of conclusions...1) unless the area you're treating is predominantly covered in thick coarse hair, laser may not be the best route for the risk of stimulating fine hair to turn terminal 2) to prevent such stimulation, you may want to have ice packs covering the areas nearby to where you're being treated.

tndrheart, i totally agree w/ your comment re: treating the underlying cause...but my glucose tests have shown normal...and i don't want to go on an ir med if i don't have a glucose problem. (i'll revisit this when i meet w/ my new doc next month.) it's hard to figure a way to treat your pcos if you don't appear to have an ir problem. (i was confirmed w/ ultrasound, hormone levels (esp testosterone) and presence of outwardly observable symptoms, including anovulation/irregular menses.)

if anyone else has some experience to share, please do!
