Anyone had laser treatment in here? is it sore etc?
Well i have an appointment on the 4th July for an assessment and if all goes well i will be booked in for free laser treatment through my health service, which im sure i will.
The only hard part ive found so far is having to shave my face, ive always plucked the hairs on my face, could never bring myself to shave, but on the letter i got it told me i had to stop plucking,waxing, bleaching my facial hair and start shaving from 6 weeks before my appointment, and 3 days pprior to the appointment ive stop shaving and leave a growth for them to see, i tell you its been so hard having to start shaving, i feel like a proper man now.

I have had the lazer hair removal. It worked for my upper lip, neck, and the sides of my face. My chin is thicker and it thinned it out a bit but I still have growth there. The next step for me is electrolisis to get rid of the ones that lazer didnt remove. They tell you its painless but I had some mild pain on my chin because the hairs are thicker.
I have been going through Laser Hair Removal now since March. I have had 3 treatments and I don't know about you but my hair is very dark and coarse. Anyway, it hurts like HELL for me. I am not going to lie, I wish someone had told me. I mean, the results are awesome, I am still in awe everyday that I don't have to shave but it feels like someone taking a rubberband and snapping it at close range to your face with every pulse of that laser, and then my face feels like it is bruised for about a week.
I don't want to scare you because I truly admit that the outcome is totally worth it but it is a painful experience and apparently it hurts more where the hair is thicker. So my chin is the worst. Anyway, best of luck, you will love the results!

i had five treatments done on my whole face. to put it simply, my experience was not a good one. to begin with, they told me it would take up to four treatments and after five treatments, i still had hair.
i was also devastated about shaving my face. it sucked. i felt completely defeated and like i should join the circus. anyways, you can also use depilitories in the interim (just not immediately before or after the treatment). i mean that's what they told me and they're also the people that told me it would take only four treatments and i am still sporting my hair after five! not only that, but it was a bit painful for a split second. i didn't care about that because i can tolerate pain pretty well, especially if it means never having to deal with hair again. but what bothered me during the treatment was that i could smell the hair burning...that was not cool, lol.
okay, the aspect of laser that i disliked the most was that my hair actually got worse afterwards. i doubt that it's because of the laser, being that it wasn't immediately after and because my pcos symptoms really kicked in a lot more around the same time this happened. the doctors think it must be new growth, which sort of makes sense to me.
another thing i was bothered by was that i had to be very careful of sun exposure. i started my treatments in april when spring was underway and summer was coming. that put a bit of a damper on things for me a bit.
all that said, i intend to start treatments again in the winter. i'm thinking between the pcos treatments and a better awareness that laser isn't the miracle it seems like it would have been, it'll go okay for me. g'luck with it.
to clarify...i said that after the five treatments i still had hair. i mean that there was no change in the thickness, amount, or rate of growth. there was basically NO CHANGE for me...i knew that it wouldn't make me 100% hair free and i wasn't expecting that. but i was hoping for some kind of reduction, just so it would be more manageable.
i would suggest people try it out, but i would suggest trying it out with all these things in mind. i recently talked to a laser center and told them that i was a cyster. they said that it does take more treatments than it would for others and that the follow up treatments may need to be more frequent, but that it can be done. i think it was just a bad doctor's office that i went to (in NJ it has to be done by a nurse, which also makes the costs a lot worse, lol). anyways, let us know how it goes... =)
Im on treatment 3, all i can say is.. I LOVE IT . It was the best investment ever. I finally got up enough courage to do something for myself. It did hurt like hell but well worth the pain. Im not hairfree, but its very fine and before it was very coarse and dark. I still have more to do ..

It's my understanding that "pain" has to do with the sensitivity of the person having the treatment, the type of laser, and the setting of the laser.
I didn't have any pain until my 4th treatment because my office 'ups' the setting each treatment, so by the 4th treatment, it's pretty high. It was tolerable, however - not the type of pain that brought tears to my eyes.
Regarding 'the sun', I made my doctor's office aware that I would be vacationing in a VERY sunny place, and they said not to have my session 2 weeks before going and 2 weeks after coming back, so laser didn't interfere with it. The doctor's office I go to is also a skin cancer center so I'm comfortable with their recommendation, and haven't had any problems, so far.

I've been having laser done now for about 5 years. In the beginning I am always thrilled with the results. During the first 5 treatments it seems like the laser is really working 80% removal. But about a year after treatment that inevitably drops to 50%. I've had areas done 12 or 13 times and the EXACT same thing always happens. I move around A LOT, so I've had laser treatments at least 9 different places that I can remember. They have all said that this is a common reaction in women with PCOS. Its not a permanent solution for us, maintenance will be needed. Should you decide to undertake laser hair removal, I would suggest you go with someone who offers some sort of hair free gauruntee, meaning that when hair appears up to say 5 years post treatment, they will laser it for free.

Thanx for all your replies. Yeah im gutted to that i had to start shaving, i feel like a total man now, waking up in the morning and having to go for a shave, i go for my consultation in around 2 weeks now, its 4th july i go, so thats round about 2 weeks away, then i will have the treatment soon after. Im just seriously hoping that this helps, i really am, its so depressing.
How did you guys find having to not shave for a few days before your consultation so the consultant could see a growth before booking in for treatment? Im finding this the hardest thing to come to terms with, ive hidden this growth for years and to let it grow and for my partner to see it is going to be hard, im actually contemplating going to stay with my mum the few days that i have to let the hair grow.

omg you sound exactly like me! I got four treatments that didn't do squat and in fact felt like it made me have more hair..
