Anyone have, or know someone who has, experience with the adoption process in any of the other Latin American countries? Guatemala is far outside our finances and Colombia has super long waiting periods and prohibitive age restrictions that will probably keep us from going back there at least for now. We've looked into Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador, Brazil.... really all we keep finding though is the agency spiels, we'd really love to hear from someone who's been there done that. (Don't get too excited girls, we're just researching for the future

Wish I could help but I know nothing about that....and I'm still excited even though you're *just* researching!

I'm about to embark on our Latin American adoption journey too (if this last TTC cycle's a bust). We originally were going to go to Panama (in 2003), but the agency who was spearheading the program there has put it on hold - too many governmental delays. The agency is doing Brazil now, but it's a new program - don't know anything about it yet. Gautemala, while expensive, has so many positives - that I may fork out the extra $$$'s to go that route. I'm older and would love to have another infant. Also, I like the fact that the babies are fostered and the travel time is short. I'll let you know if I find anything out - further down the road

Thanks Websissy. I'd be interested to hear how things go for you. Aside from the financial difficulties with Guatemala, I have to say the horror stories we heard a while back still kind of scare me about it too. The agency we used for Sam's adoption is no longer doing Guatemala adoptions (supposedly on temp hold due the the problems, but never opened back up), so I have no idea what the state of Guat adoptions is right now.
