:p Penticostle Charismatic. When I was in College and I first accepted Christ, the church that sponsored "Brothers and sisters in Christ" (a club) was Charasmatic. I came from a Catholic background and It was different..but I just loved the worship to music...It was really "out there wild" like me.

However, shortly after I became very nervous because the started speaking in tongues......and if people, mainly the pastor, would lay their hand on your head to recieve the "Holy Spirit" to speak in tongues.
Through my own experience it wasn't right for me....there was alot of GREAT worship but there were things not quite right having to do with scripture. Not of Sound doctrine, in my opinon. First of all the Bible tells us that God doesn't cause confusion. So in my case, speaking in tongues around those who don't know about it or are frightened without an interpretor isn't what the Lord speaks of when he says,
"For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him...He who speaks in tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets (basically meaning someone being able to interpret whats being said in tongues so to not cause confusion), that the church may recieve edification. 1Cor14:2-5 Also see 1 Cor14:13 which says
Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret
Now moving on to your question.....God used many in the Bible to heal...but only through Him. So it can be done. However, and this is a BIG however. There are many out there nowadays that do this and not through sound doctrine or for people, but for the edification of themselves not through Christ. It's extremely complicated and maybe my DH can help me explain it better. There are MANY televangelists who have millions of people following them. Some are from true sound doctrine that is in line with Christ and others are extremely dangerous with False hope, false preaching, and false testimonies.
My question would be this:
Where is the emphasis?? Is it on tongues and miracles of laying hands or is the emphasis on growth through following the Bible and Jesus Christ?
Jesus and the apostles,as well as the church followers healed. They didn't hold special services just for healing though. The main emphasis was put on sharing the Gospel etc. Read the whole book of Acts...especially the first four or five chapters in acts and it will give basically what the emphasis was, etc.
Also take a look at this website to maybe help you answer some questions you have.
Equip.org
Something I've just read "Therefore brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
Let all things be done decently and in order. 1Cor.14:39-40
Again, remembering that #1 basing beliefs with sound doctrine through Gods word in Jesus Christ...but also remembering that there is a balance. Without the Word of God as the forefront, there is no balance if only what your hearing is healing, tongue speaking, etc. alone without Gods word and rules.
Odds are I've confused you even more and maybe in the process ticked some of our charismatic believers off too :p My appoligies to everyone. You've asked a wonderful question and its HUGE! Why? Because while most Christians believe in confessing our faith that Jesus was born, Died on the cross for our sins and is Alive through our confession which is Salvation. There are SO many beliefs in doctrine and theology. It seems that even through Christianity there are so many arguments even though we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.
If you don't believe in what was said to you, pray that God will help you find somewhere you can feel comfortable in, with sound doctrine and a big focus on His word. Better yet, pray also for a mentor! I just got into a women mentoring women program teaching how to be women and wives of the Bible and I love it! Our mentors teach what we should look out for, give scriptures for us to keep in mind about whom God wants us to be or look at, or act like and they really help you through these time when your seeking, want the truth, and are unsure! You don't have to give up working, to be a Christian woman....its not about that...its about taking what Gods word says we should do to be a faithful servant. I'm in a non-denominational church specifically teaches through the word of God. I'll give you the beliefs if you want me to email you with them. We don't believe in speaking in tongues...we do believe that laying your hands or putting your hands in the air toward say praying for a family and their new child dedicated. things of that sort. Ever hear of "where to or more are gathered to pray...?" I believe thats where this comes from.
Now....I am not a "pro" and do not know everything there is to know about "Christianity". My walk is like anyone elses...its a walk for a lifetime. Some know more than me, others know less or the same. Its a constant process of reading and memorizing scripture and having fellowship with other believers. So I hope I've helped a bit. When DH comes home I'll have him read what I've posted and ask him to help me put to words what I missed.
Your questioning and thats a good thing! We all must walk with God and be able to question that which we don't feel is right. Learn the Truth and accept the Truth which was said by God. I'm glad your not complacent and are asking questions! Thats definately a Christ seeker!
