Default LDS family services

Does anyone know how to go about adopting through LDS family services?

There are a few things you must do/have in order to be eligible to use the family services of the church. Here is the link to the page on the church site:

http://www.providentliving.org/ses/a...2191-1,00.html

Basic requirements for an infant adoption include a couple being (1) married at least two years, (2) sealed to each other in the temple and maintain current recommends, (3) able to clear criminal background and child abuse registry checks required by government regulations, (4) and able to financially provide for a child, including insurance coverage once the child is placed in the couple's home. Couples should also hold a current temple recommend and a positive recommendation from their Bishop.

This was taken from that site. There is also a link that will help you find the local Family Services office, where you can ask direct questions that aren't answered on the site. We have thought about using the church, but haven't decided exactly what route we want to take for our next child.
I think there is someone on here that is using the church to adopt. Not sure what her name is, hopefully she'll see this.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Hi Torie - maybe Kristen was talking about me. Our profile was completed with LDSFS in January of this year and we are still waiting. I am sure the website covers most of your questions, but feel free to ask me anything or PM if you want. There is a link to our profile in my siggy. Good luck and take care!

Not sure if my next child is coming through me or someone else - but he or SHE is out there.

Yes, I was speaking of you. I will probably be pm'ing you as well, as we have started considering this as an option for us. We will be sealed as a family 10/27 or 11/3.

That's terrific...what a wonderful day for your family. Tell me more! Are you an adoptive mother or considering adoption for the first time?

This will be our first adoption. I had my tubes tied after the birth of our daughter. With them being 12 mo. and 8 days apart, I was sure I was done. Now, being in the church the last year or so, I have learned how important family is to me (not that it wasn't before, but now WOW) and I feel impressed to have another child. I would have to have IVF to give birth myself, so in a way, I feel selfish for wanting this as I feel it was my mistake to tie my tubes, why should I get a chance to spend all that money after we've worked so hard to pay down our debt. Does that make sense? Then, our close friends here that are going through the public system for adoption (they are members as well) and are adopting a 9 y/o boy. (they have 3 natural children 10, 7, 5) In order to have someone watch him more than 6 hours they have to be licensed. That started the process for foster care/adoption for us, as we thought what better way to learn more about the system and help them by providing a home that is licensed (we already trade children/babysitting). Then we started thinking about what age we'd like, and thought 4-6 would be good as there is the gap between DS#1 who is 7 and DS#2 who is 2 1/2. THEN () we thought, we have no control over that child's initial upbringing and what if they were abused beyond repair, etc. which triggered the thought of the church program, and that is where we are today.

Sorry that's so long and probably doesn't make much sense.

Makes sense to me...children come to families in all sorts of ways, I guess. I am sure your current and future children are very blessed to have you as a mother. We are planning to pursue the state process as well, possibly at the beginning of next year. We have not been happy with the LDS caseworker so far, but that could change. Good luck to you!

Hi! I have been browsing the boards today and came across your post. I am a Mother through adoption. We have adopted 3 beautiful children...all our adoption were through LDS FS. Adoption is an incredible experience.....I hope yours is a positive one. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. My hubby and I serve in Families Supporting Adoption ....it has been a great experience. If you do decide to go through LDS FS get involved in FSA! Even if you adopt through another agency FSA is a great way to help advocate adoption.

Best Wishes!
Brenda
