Default Left Ovary Pain-Need Advice ASAP

Hey guys..I got online tonight because I am experiencing this constant pain in my left ovary. It's strange because it's not both ovaries..and normally before cycling, the pain is cramping and it is usually both ovaries that are bloated and hurting. I'm debating on paging my DR but afraid he'll just tell me to go to the ER with it..and they don't do crap...you pay this huge copay for nothing. I want them to do a sonagram or something..rather than just tell me they have no freaking clue what it is and send me home. Has anyone had this problem? My Drs have mentioned endometriosis and want me to have some sort of minor surgery done to see if I have it...but we haven't gotten to that yet and they said the pelvic pain indicates endometriosis. But this isn't really considered pelvic pain is it? I mean..I KNOW it's my left ovary!! HELP!! Advice is much appreciated!! Should I page my Dr? Should I go to the ER? Thanks!!

Hi Btrflybeetle,

I posted a similar post on this website a few days ago.

I was recently diagnosed with a mild form of PCOS, i.e. I only have 2 symptoms... bloating and a mild constant pain on the left side of my pelvis. Ultrasound showed that I had a couple of cysts on my ovaries, a cyst on my left side was slightly larger than the rest, which is what the Doc said is causing the pain. I had various blood tests to check for hormone balance and some other stuff, but all came back normal.

I have been on contraceptive pills for almost 7 years and the Doc changed me over to one called Yasmin, which is supposedly meant to be great for treating PCOS. He also informed my case could have been alot worse had I not been taking the pill already. I have only been taking Yasmin for 2 weeks, so my pain has not been relieved yet, but I will post a message if anything changes. In the meantime, I use a heat pack on the area to relieve the dull ache and if its worse than other times, I use a basic headache painkiller.

I am from Sydney, Australia so I'm not sure how your Doctors work over there. It would probably be a good idea to get a referal for an ultrasound and blood tests. If my pain persists, my next step is an internal ultrasound to see what's really going on! If I were you I would definatly get a check up for your symptoms. The earlier you find out what it is, the better chances you will have of treating it properly. Perhaps find a Doctor who specialises in PCOS and Endometriosis. It might not be either of those things, but better to be safe than sorry.

Good Luck. If you get checked out, let us know how you went!

Hon, page your doctor! That's what we pay them for! I'm serious. If your pain is that bad, and your local ER that horrid, you really have no choice If they try to tell you to go to the ER, explain your prior experience and why you don't want to go that route again. Hopefully then they will understand and be more helpful!

As you know from the other thread, I'm having a similar problem. Doing a google search on "ovarian cyst" this morning really opened my eyes. Chances are we'll both be ok, but these are not the kind of chances we should take. You need to find out just what's going on, pronto.

I'm sorry you're going through this I have a high pain threshold and I'm on narcotic pain killers for other health conditions and the pain of whatever is growing on my ovary made me cry like a baby! Don't let that happen if you can help it!

I hope your doctor is able to help you! And quickly!
Dana

Hi there! Does anyone know if there is anything a doctor can perscribe to stop the cysts on the ovaries from rupturing? I've mentioned in another post that I've also had pain in my left ovary...no bloating though. But after getting off the BCP it seemed to have stopped. I'm just wondering what to ask my doctor when I go back in April in case it comes back before then.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the great responses! I saw one of my OBGYNs this morning (i see two diff ones) and she did a pelvic exam and said that she couldn't feel that my ovaries were hard...indicating it probably isn't endometriosis. She wants me to have a sonagram next week..and she thinks it might be a cyst as well. The Yasmin I am taking should be fully working now so I'll be able to tell you more about the symptom relief hopefully in a month. My Dr DID explain what the standard procedure is for someone with endometriosis (in case i do have that)..she explained she would put me on Depot Lupron for a few months and that it would cause me to go through menopause at age 24!! ughh!! But she said she didn't think that was the case..just wanted to inform me anyway. We will know more after the sonogram. Please cross your fingers for me!! I can deal with PCOS but endomentriosis on top of all that...I can't imagine!! Stephen & I are TTC and that would make the process even longer!!
I'm suppossed to keep a diary of when symptoms occur and what I ate for the day, etc...just in case it is something else. Thanks for all of your concern! I'll keep you posted!!
