I love the Food Network. I've been a cooking show junkie since I was little and all that was on was Celebrity Chefs (or something like that) with Bruno Gerussi (the guy from Beachcombers) and Wok With Yan. The the Urban Pesant came on the scene and that was like nirvana for me! Then PBS started airing more cooking shows. Then I got married, got satelite and got the Food Network. I was a very happy camper that day!
I love Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson. I have a soft spot for Brit chefs, mind you (apart from Gordon Ramsay). I also love Alton Brown and Good Eats. That man is brilliant! And so funny. He was the perfect choice to host Iron Chef America (and Kevin makes a great runner).
Who do you like/dislike? What shows do you miss? I miss Two Fat Ladies and the original Naked Chef series. I'd love to see them do a retro weekend. My VCR would burn out from being overworked!

I loved Jamie's Italian Escape. He seemed so candid and the food looked so incredible!!!. I am really enjoying Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, it seems to be a little less sensational this season, not so much filthy kitchens and incompetence. He really is trying to help the restaurants stay in business, he just tells the truth!! I don't watch much else, I loathe Rachel ray and all those Calorie Commando-type shows that are on in the afternoon. I am very glad that we don't get Sandra Lee here, or else I would have to watch it in morbid fascination.
I also watch America's Test Kitchen on PBS, although they could all do without the sticks up their butts.
I obviously dont live near you,but I love tv cooking too. If you want to see some more recipes from british chefs - this website is lovely. Some recipes have a webcam so you can 'see' them cook
uktvfood.co.uk Has yours got a website I could look at, pleas?

Are you kidding me!? I lived and breathed the food network for 10 weeks straight on hospitalized bedrest during the SARS epidemic while pregnant with my son. We watch the shows together sometimes, and I know he feels some sort of connection to them, from all the time he spent "listening" in utero, lol.
I have too many favourites to list. Only this new one "Just One Bite" I'm not all that thrilled with.
I have picked up many tips and techniques along the way.

I love the food network. I guess part of my love for it was because my mom watched it 24/7.
I am very fond of Jamie Oliver. Back in the day, I always thought he was sort of an arrogant twat but he's grown on me. I was especially fond of his show in the schools... whatever that was called. It reminded me that the Canadian system isn't all that much better.
I used to really love Bobby Flay but now he's moved to Iron Chef America and that bugs me. I also loved Ming Tsai but he's sort of disapeered off the face of the planet.
Is it me or are they trying to cater to a more male audience on that channel these days? I don't enjoy the shows as much as I used to and I think that is because they are doing more 'reality based' shows rather than the old fashioned how-to cooking shows. What do you guys think?

I love food network too! When I was a young girl I couldn't wait until Satuday afternoon when Jacques Pepin and Julia Child came on PBS. Who care about Sat morning cartoons I wanted Sat afternoon cooking shows.
I also really enjoy the cooking competions on the food network although they repeat the same ones all the time.

I used to have it on in the background all the time when I still lived at home - because my family always made me cook, and I always needed new ideas.
Anyway, now that I have the whole PCOS thing to think about...it's hard to watch those cooking shows because most of them make me drool with longing..hehe.
I'd have to say that my favourite show lately has been Sugar. Why? Because I LOVE sugar, I just never have any...so in some way, the show is my replacement of the real thing.
What I don't like about the cooking shows ---> they always have awesome recipes for yummy sounding ice cream, but I don't own an ice cream maker!! Oh well, better that I don't own one I suppose..hehe.
Suval.. I agree about the shows! I don't really care for the reality based shows as much... like Food Jammers... it's good in it's own strange way... but not my first pick of cooking shows...
I live... breathe.. and LOVE the Food Network! It's the first channel I check when I turn on the TV...I love Alton Brown... just wish he was on more than once a week (when I was still living in the states.. he was on nearly every day! ) I love Jamie Oliver too... I miss The Naked Chef series as well!
I don't really care for Kylie Kwong... or any of the shows that don't necessarily have to do with cooking.. (Unwrapped, Behind The Bash.. etc)
I miss Two Hot Tamales...but then I LOVE anything with a Mexican flair! ( I like Bobby Flay's cooking... just not him so much)...
I also miss not being able to make a lot of these recipes! DH and I are trying to eat mostly whole foods and healthy... but I still take my inspirations from a lot of the shows!

I love the Food Network! I'm the pickiest eater you would ever meet but I love watching cooking shows.
I loved the special Jamie's School Dinners...well I pretty much love anything with Jamie Oliver. lol
I like Chef at Home, I think his little boy is the cutest thing ever. I've discovered you can have a drinking game with this show...whenever he says aromatic take a shot!
There are two shows I can't stand, Everyday Italian and 30 Minute Meals, I don't like the hosts. Rachael Ray drives me insane I can't watch any of her shows, I can't even watch the commercials for them I have to mute it or change the channel.
