Default Levoxyl vs Levothyroxine??

I am sure this has been asked a million times, but I am a newbie to the hypo world. After many years struggling I finally get a Dr. to agree that I have sub clinical hypothyroid.

Any way I am trying to figure out which route to go, the generic or the name brand. I here a lot of conflicting stories.

Anyone??

Thanks a million!

I take 75 mcg of Levoxyl daily. I have been taking this for several years and have done well on it. I sometimes think I need to be on a higher dosage, but so far more than one dr. has kept me at the same dosage. Trust me...I feel tons better than I did when I first started taking it and I hope I never feel that horribly again!

My doctor told me to always get brand name with thyroid meds, not generics. Different generics have different binders and fillers in them. We need consistant meds.

well my levothyroxine makes me feel worse than before. i'm so tired i can barely hold my head up. could it raise my hypo and make it worse? i'm still researching and i'll see what could be going on.

well, i'm feeling the way i felt before taking the levo now. at first it made me more tired and now i'm just back to the normal sluggish feeling. what gives? crap, this is not cool. now my throat is hurting again like before i went on the levo.

haven't lost anything yet, seems like i shouldn't plan on either. most of what i read is like take it, try it eventhough there's a high chance it won't work.

i've been on 1000 metformin for a month and i'll give that some time to work IF it works at all. just be prepared for either outcome and you won't be disappointed either way. no harm in trying BUT you need money and patience...i don't have much of either.

i've read to simply give it time until you find the right dosage. i've also read that you should try to get it around 2.0 and mine was 4.832 on march 15 and now it's 4.5 as of may 1... can't complain too much can i.

give me an idea of how long you've been taking the meds and the change in your numbers if you don't mind. i like comparing notes, it helps me get a better idea of things.

I take the Levothyroxine and it works well for me. I have taken both Levoxyl and synthroid as both the generic and non-generic. I think you just have to experiment and see what works for you.

I say go with your budget if you can afford the expensive brand then get it. I have heard people feel differently on each one. I personally feel okay on the generic.

I was started on name brand Synthroid, and when the samples ran out I fill my Rx and got Levothyrine. I noticed no real change between either, but I do know that some people have trouble with generics. Truthfully, I think it's a choice you and your Dr. have to make together.
