Question Lexapro??

Does anyone else take this? I never really thought I was depressed but my doctor said I am. I was having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I was very irritable when I was awake because I was so tired. I was on the verge of tears from what I though was shear exhaustion. My son was 8 months old at the time and my doctor said it was probably a little post partum depression. He prescribed Lexapro and I have been on it for 4 months now. I don't notice much of a difference in my moods really and my husband says he doesn't really notice a big change either. I am sleeping better now though. I was just wondering if anyone else is taking this and if so is it a mild anti-depressant? I think I am less irritable and not so prone to break down into a crying mess now but I am not sure that it is in any way related to the Lexapro?

Joshua is adorable. You must feel very proud of him Actually, crying and irritablility are signs of depression, as well as not sleeping well and extreme fatigue. Obviously, with a baby you're not going to get optimal rest, but have to grab it when you can. It sounds as though it's doing it's job, to me. Not everyone has the exact same symptoms or degree of symptoms. Lexapro is a well reviewed anti-d. If it helps, continue to use it. If it doesn't and you decide to go off of it, please contact your Dr. to find out the best way for you to do that. Some meds have to be reduced slowly. I actually take Celexa, which is basically the same thing but older version of Lexapro, not only for depression but for my sleep patterns. I have a sleep disorder and celexa helps me sleep through the night. I also take another med to do this, but I definitely notice if I don't take my celexa. I've tried it. Wasn't good. LOL I don't really have other symptoms of depression unless I go off it and then they are very mild and not all the time. But, I'll go back to crying easily, not sleeping well even with a sleeping pill and being generally hard to live with. What ever decision you make, I wish you luck. Enjoy your baby boy. Lendi

Default Lexapro

Last year in June, I started having panic attacks. I put up with it for a year because I hoped they would go away on their own. But they didn't. I finally went to the dr. and he put me on Lexapro. It helps me tremendously......as long as I take it. The attacks have stopped and I am a much happier and easy going person than before. I wasn't depressed or edgy or anything just having panic attacks, which by the way didn't start till my husband took a job away from home which is very dangerous. So I don't think they were related to my PCOS. The problem is, I don't want to be the kind of person that has to take meds the rest of my life just to feel normal and now, if I miss my lexapro for a day or two, I am nothing but a ball of nerves. I get very emotional and can cry over nothing and the slightest little thing sets me off and I tend to get a little hostile. So, i'm going to try and slow down to taking 1 pill every other night or just half a pill every night, and continue to drop back till I can hopefully come off of it. My husband and I are trying to conceive and I'm not sure of the effects this medicine could have. Lexapro is wonderful and does it's job well if you give it time. It sometimes takes about a month. Here's wishing you the best of luck and lots of love and prayers!!
