Unhappy Lexapro, Anxiety, and being dumped!

How long did Lexapro take to work for those of you taking it?

I took it in the past and it worked pretty well. I stopped taking it about 4 months ago because I thought, after 3 years on it, maybe I was all better and maybe it wasn't doing much anymore. Boy, was I wrong! I am having anxiety through the roof. Anyway, I restarted the lexapro after that mistake and I've been on it now for about 8 days. Now I'm having increased anxiety as a side effect, but I think that is getting better. I was going to stop taking it because of that side effect, but my doc said stay with it one more week.. soo.. I'm frustrated and scared.

My new boyfriend thinks my anxiety is caused by our relationship becoming too serious and he wants to take a break. I've tried to make him understand that this is on ongoing lifelong condition for me which my whole family has, and that I'll get better, but he is determined to hang on to what he thinks. Is it possible to meet have a boyfriend that doesn't dump you as soon as your panic attacks flair up?

Also looking for links to articles that connect PCOS and anxiety so I can prove to my bf that he is way off!

Thanks for being here!!!

SSRI's frequently take 4-6 weeks to work on average. Lexapro can cause anxiety problems, usually as a short term side effect that resolves itself. There are anxiety drugs that are appropriate to use in the short term, while waiting for the longer term medications to kick in, perhaps something to discuss with your doctor.

As for the BF issue, I don't know if this guy is the right guy or not, but I have bipolar, complicated by anxiety issues, and a wonderful, supportive DH, so yes, there are guys out there that will stick through the good and bad, if someone really loves you they will love you even when it's hard. Unfortunately, only time will tell if you've found him right now.

It took 2 months for Lexapro to make me feel better. Not sure why I waited so long, but it does help anxiety!

For me it took about 2months. I didn't notice increased anxiety but I did have depression, which I wasn't having. They told me just to stay on it a little longer. I did and now I am feeling better. Unfortunately it isn't something that tends to work wonders right away and your dose may need to be increased as well. For me I started out on 5mg and didn't have any effect with it,then I went to 10mg and notice better improvement. Keep staying on it. You might ask your doc. if he can give you a PRN order for xanax or something that can help with the additional anxiety until the lexapro is helping. Hang in there!!!!

Your lucky he stuck around. Mine dumped me. I have this thing about attracting men who have absolutely no character to stick with a woman thru thick and thin. I've dated extremely wealthy and powerful men who are famous and they can be the least down to earth and most narccissistic of men. When they leave you over pcos, you know its all about them and who needs that?

I'm looking for one who has a heart like Forrest Gump. Sounds like you have a good man if he is sticking around. If he's cute, hold on to him.
