at that point I was told nothing over 25 lbs.. but check with your OB

My Mood: Points: 14,807.39 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 14,807.39 | I was told the 25 pound thing too and during the first trimester I pretty much stuck to it but now I dont worry about it. I lift way more when no one is looking. I think that as long as you are healthy and not lifting heavy heavy stuff then you should be fine. Last weekend DH and I were moving furniture and he didnt really want me to but I knew he couldnt move some of the really big stuff on his own so I helped and I am fine and i was comfortable doing it. There would have been no question if I was not preg and I hate feeling like I am useless so...

My Mood: Points: 26,005.15 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 26,005.15 | I have read that lifting does have a small chance of causing the placenta to tear away from the uterine wall (abruption). I would be careful about lifting more than 25 pounds.
Hypocritically though, I go on lifting my 36 pound daughter. I really shouldn't but she is special needs and sometimes when I am home alone with her I have no other choice.

Points: 56,276.83 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 56,276.83 | I was cautious during my first pregnancy, but I noticed that my body was pretty good about giving me feedback when I was overdoing it.
This time around I asked my OB about lifting my 25lb DS because, frankly, he's getting heavy! My OB said there have been many studies that show that moms are perfectly capable of continuing to care for and pick up/carry their older children throughout the entire pregnancy and there's no reason I should feel like I need to stop. He said to trust my body to tell me when it's too much, which I do - I can still pick up DS easily, but I can't hold him for nearly as long as I used to.

My Mood: Points: 23,121.00 Bank: 1,322,984.08 Total Points: 1,346,105.08 | I was originally told nothing over 25 lbs during my first pg. During my second pg I told nothing heavier than my 2 1/2 year old. He's 3ft 4in tall and 40lbs...yes he's the size of most 4 year olds. My doctor knew it was unrealistic to tell me I couldn't lift him. He told me it was fine as long as my body didn't object. I stopped being able to pick him up about 8 months pg except for the bear hug that lifted him a few feet off the floor.

My Mood: Points: 6,868.35 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,868.35 | I was lifting 50-75lbs at work every day before I became pregnant. The people I work with don't allow me to pick that much up anymore..but I do sneak and lift more than I should at times! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I think it's different for each woman and their physical stucture. I'm a fairly bigboned girl and none of the lifting I've done has affected me... |
