Default Link between weight and anovulation?

I thought back to the time that I started gaining weight and noticed that's when my periods got fewer and futher in between. They were always a little irregular but it wasn't untill I became really overweight that I would go 3 months or longer without a period.

Any comments on this would be great

My PCOS symptoms have not been correlated with weight. I am 5'11'' and have never weighed over 148 (freshman 15 in college). RIght now, I am 135- which is a good weight for me. I think what makes the difference for me is staying away from sugar and simple carbs and exercise. When I am doing these two things, my cycles are shorter, more regular, and the ovaries appear less cystic.

Thanks Jen,
From everything I've been reading I understand that my symptoms can get better with the weight loss. About 3 years ago I put on alot of my weight. I went from a size 12-18 in about a year. After that year was when I started noticing I wouldn't menstrurate for 3-4 or even 6 months. For the past 2 years that this has been occuring I have been off and on the bcp AND have kept the weight fluctuating between 200-220. I lose 5 or 10 then gain the same amount back. I still need to be tested for IR and then will try low carbing. I guess I'm looking for hope that losing the weight will help to regulate my cycles without the help of bcp.

Anybody else notice that gaining the weight reduce menstration?

Thanks ~Viv~
