Along with the PCOS I have Celiac disease and have to avoid anything and everything that contains gluten or even came in contact with it. Unfortunately gluten is in most everything, so I no longer eat out and make each of my meals.

I had heard it could be linked to PCOS. It is also genetic and I'm pretty sure my grandmother has it, but is in denial (She's a bread junkie). My sister has the symptoms and feels better when she avoids gluten, but she isn't being strict about it.

I was in the bathroom 30+ times a day a year ago, before I realized I should have listened to my doctor back in 2001 when I was warned I may be sensitive to gluten and should avoid it. Avoid bread? No way!

I wish I had listened.

When the small intestine absorbs the food, the gluten is basically attacked and the villi in the small intestine are destroyed in the process. So food can't be digested and absorbed properly. The only way to make things better is to avoid gluten at all costs.

I'm not sure if the hair loss I'm experiencing is due to the PCOS or Celiac disease, both cause hair loss. I was so overweight and malnourished because my food literally went straight through me. My body was in starvation mode because of this and the weight got so bad. My nails were brittle, but are getting better. My skin looks better and I wish my hair would grow back. My moods have improved. Before, my mood swings made bipolar disorder look normal.

It's amazing how something hardly anyone has heard of can cause so much trouble in the body and our lives. A lot of people have this and don't know they have it.

Talking I was diagnosed with Lupus anticoagulant

Hello Ladies,

Can I please join your thread. Here is a little history about myself. I have been dealing with infertility for about 4 years now and I refuse to give up my dream of having a biological child. I was diagnosed with Lupus anticoagulant and borderline PCOS. My DR says that I dont have PCOS but I care to differ because I have every symptom imaginable that says otherwise!
I have been doing my own research on PCOS, infertility & autoimmune conditions because I am determined to bet this condition naturally. Here is what I have found out about auto immune conditions and PCOS. The more I research the more information I find that confirms that enzymes is the way to beat these conditions. All you ladies have to do is just google enzymes and autoimmune conditions and you will be overwhelmed with all of the information that you will come across. Here is a list of enzymes that I am taking: Vitalzym, Wobenzyme Nattokinase 1500, Now foods Pau D' Arco.

Systematic enzymes, digestive enzymes, Pau D' Arco and Nattokinase.

Ladies please view this link it will help you understand the correlation between enzymes and autoimmune conditions.

http://www.afibbers.org/conference/session39.pdf

Please let me know what you ladies think about this information. I am only trying to help nothing more and nothing less. I just want to share the wealth of knowledge and give informative information.

Hi Pretty,
to SoulCysters.

I totally agree that enzymes are very important to help us have a healthier body, and by using the right enzymes, it can help us to overcome some of the adverse conditions that are harming our bodies.

I am taking digestive enzymes, and an enzyme combo that is specially formulated to target yeast/candida (I personally think that candida causes PCOS). I was taking serrapeptase to help break down the scar tissue of my MS, but now that I am PG, I have chosen to stop taking it until after the baby is born.

That is an intersting article that you gave the link to, a little long, I wasn't able to read it all, just skimed through it. I have saved it though, so I can go back later.

Enzymes play a vital role in helping our bodies function properly. Mercury in the body actually disrupts enzyme formation in the body. It inhibits the metabolic pathways involved in enzyme production (among several other metabolic pathways that it interferes with).

This artical, with a TON of references, talks about the damage that mercury does in the body, including the disruption of enzyme production:
http://www. home.earthlink.net/~berniew1/cfsfm.html

You can take enzyme supplements to get those enzymes that the body is not producing enough of because of the mercury in the body, but since mercury does a lot more damage, not just enzyme disruption, it is best to also try to cleanse the body of the mercury (and other toxins). And since Candida has probably become overgrown because of the mecury, it is good to take steps to get the candida back in control again.

This is kind of a long thread, with lots of info, so in case you didn't have a chance to read it, I have explained more about my views about the mercury/yeast connection with autoimmune disorders, and PCOS in my earlier post: http://www. soulcysters.net/links-between-pcos-autoimmune-disorders-129336/index4.html#post1888334192

I personally believe that healing from chronic illnesses, like PCOS and autoimmune conditions, is a process. The body must be cleansed of the toxins (like mercury) and the pathogens (like candida), and it must receive the nutrients, and supplements (like enzymes) to aid in damage repair.

In my blog, I have explained about my treatment protocol of cleansing the body of toxins, and pathogens, and doing damage repair, which has helped me to overcome my Mutiple Sclerosis, my Oral lichen planus, and my PCOS:
http:// vivatrucara.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!BB861C31C43B12F8!241.entry

I have noticed that a couple of the things that you are taking, the digestive enzymes and the Pau D' Arco, are things that are also used to control candida. So I would be very interested in hearing about your success while using these things.
How long have you been taking these supplements?
Have you noticed any improvement in your symptoms yet?

Smile Enzymes they work better than you think!

Hello Lachicarubia,

You may not remember me but a couple of months ago I sent you a private email asking you questions about the enzymes that you where taking. I would like to thank you for the wealth of information that you shared with me. I took that information and ran with it. I have been so busy researching the topic of enzymes. I have come across some amazing information. I just started the enzymes this week because they are very expensive especially the Vitalzym. I had to convince my husband that these enzymes where worth the investment. So far so good. If I have to consumme every herb and supplement on the market to get my end result of conceiving a biological child then so be it. I would rather heal myself naturally than with modern medicine.

Here is another interesting article.

Thanks again for all of your wonderful information.

Pretty,

Don't let your dr. off the hook. If s/he won't listen to you, find one who will. I went to the same practice twice - two different doctors - one who said I'm fine, the other who finally diagnosed me. The problem is there is really such a thing called "non-traditional PCO". It's more accepted these days as "metabolic syndrome" or "Syndrome X". There aren't multiple cysts like with PCOS, so that misguides alot of dr's in brushing off your symptoms. Most of them think you need the string of pearls cysts. If the high androgens are there, as well as resistance to weight loss or high/borderline blood sugar, hirtuism, etc., it should be treated like PCOS. After my 2nd IVF, I went to that 1st endoc. & my androgens were within normal limits. But I knew something was wrong. I had hirtuism for the past 4 years after gaining about 20 lbs., and had also had the hirtuism back in my 20s before I had a large weight loss. I also had a high percentage of empty follicles, just like PCOSers during my IVF's without steroids (which lower testosterone). By the time I was done with IVF's 3 & 4 (on steroids), my symptoms had become worse, and I had those androgens retested as well as my blood sugar, and they were all elevated. That's when I had proof.

Thanks for the info on the enzymes. I've taken wobenzym in the past, but because I've got complicated health problems, I have difficulty taking it because it exacerbates my symptoms. I did however order the nattokinase because I was just dx with some coagulation problems, and plan on giving that a shot. Maybe it'll improve my health all around.

Take care

I have psoriasis, which is an autoimmune disorder. I have heard that most PCOS patients have some sort of autoimmune problem. I've even heard of some IBS sufferers having IBS because of an autoimmune disorder.

I'm just wondering - since natto is derived from soy beans, it's not estrogenic since it's made from fermented soy, right?

ETA: I figured it out - read the entire article. Very interesting!! I'm a little nervous taking nattokinase since reading the part about theoretical emboli breaking off & causing problems (which they say they don't have a single case but I'm one of those ppl who gets the rare case side effects). I'm flying the day after finally getting in with a hematologist, so here's hoping I get through it ok. Thanks for posting

Pretty, I am so sorry, I don't remember you. I have received many emails with questions, so I don't always remember everybody. Can I blame it on my pregnant brain? I seem to be forgetting a lot of things these days (LOL). I am glad that the info I shared was helpful for you.

I see you have shared a lot of information with us, too. You have really been doing a lot of research. Thanks. Keep up the great work, and let us know how the enzymes are working for you. I hope you get your natural BFP soon.

Well, you can count me in! I have 2 autoimmune disorders - Endometriosis and Interstitial Cystitis...I always believed there was a connection to PCOS and autoimmune disorders. A very strong connection.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! It's certainly something to think about, as my father has been diagnised with fibromyalgia, my sister has been diagnosed with juvenile rhumatoid arthritis and my paternal grandfather was diagnosed with psoraisis.

I have autoimmune disease in my family but its always been Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. I've been sick for a couple of years now with no diagnosis but my heart is telling me I have lupus and sjogren's.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and had Graves disease. I've noticed that my RA gets better when I'm on my period and worse immediately before. Also women are more likely to have RA than men...so there is obviously some hormonal connection. Plus most women with RA that get pregnant go into remission when they are pregnant and then flare afterwards. I don't know personally, because I've never been pregnant. There is a connection without a doubt.
