Links for thyroid disease (Connection to PCOS and autoimmune thyroiditis)
I cant remember which thread I read that some of you ladies wanted information on thyroid problems being linked to PCOS and that both are considered autoimmune diseases (like diabetes, arthritis, ms, lupus, etc.) I couldn't find all of the links I once had bookmarked, but the following offer some pretty good info.
TTC #2 since 2004
Dx: PCOS, hypothyroidism, endometreosis
Synthroid (200 mcg) and Prenatals
IVF #1 Dec. '06 - baby lost in Jan '07 at 6w1d. IVF #2 Mar '09 - +HPT 3/27/09, Beta on 3/30/09 was neg. - little bean(s) not meant to be IVF #3 June '09 -- +HPT on 6/24/09, Beta on 7/1/09 538 and Beta on 7/3 1142. EDD March 7, 2010!!!
It was me who asked. I knew that Hashimoto's is an autoimmune condition, and that it is thought to be linked to PCOS. But I was really interested in your doctor's assertion that PCOS is an autoimmune disease.
I've done a lot of research on autoimmune diseases and I've never once seen PCOS listed as an AD. Let me know if you ever run across anything that makes that claim! Those of us who have one AD are at high risk for developing another.
Thanks for sharing those links. Here's a great one on women and autoimmune diseases from the Mayo Clinic:
A box at the bottom of this web page sites PCOS as a commom autoimmune disease. It was actually my gen. prac. who told me it was an autoimmune disease linked to PCOS. I will see him at the beginning of March and will ask him more about it then--will share with you at that time.

I should have added that the book advertised at the site is a great resource. I had checked it out of my local library when I was first Dx with hypothyroidism. I found it very informative, especially the checklists.
Thanks for the Mayo Clinic post too Jessica!

There have been some more replies; Kat supplied a link to one of the research articles about this subject.
Thought you might be interested.

While having my checkup with my PCP last Friday, she noticed an enlarged thyroid in my neck. She ran some blood tests...
What does that mean? Does anyone else have this?
Thanks
