Default Lipase and Amylase?

My doctor ordered bloodwork (s) as well as a fasting plasma insulin test last week. I did a search on them, and found out they had to do with glucose and the pancreas, what I don't understand is what is she looking for? Diabetes is one, but would that be it? Is there anythig else she can tell by the results of these blood tests? I'm searched out and very ill. Just wanted to pose the question.

thanks

I know I've had the Amylase to check for pancreatitis. I don't know if she could be looking for something else or not. Have you been having upper abdominal pain, suspected gall bladder problem?

I have been having nagging feeling around my belly button area, nausea, bloating, nasty gas and bm's. My doctor did some blood work and the major flags are Amylase, Serum 170 and Lipase, Serum 266. Would this have anything to do with PCOS?

Your Sx sound like cholecystitis, (gall bladder inflammation) which may be caused by a gall stone. If you do a search with the medical term I used above you may find more info. However, the tests are usually for pancreatitis, which CAN - but not usually - be caused by a gall stone blocking the pancreatic duct. Did they do an ultrasound?

I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy a few weeks ago. THe endoscopy showed some stomach inflamation and the colonoscopy was fine. I am having an abdominal CT scan on Tuesday.

Neither the endoscopy or the colonoscopy would show anything wrong with either your pancreas or your gallbladder. The abdominal CT should help, but you still might need more tests after that. Best wishes! Glad your roto-rooters went well though!

Default What is considered high levels?

Jennifer:

Do you know what your levels are? It's been two weeks and I still can not get in touch with my doctor to find out what my levels mean.

Default CT Scan

MY CT Scan (Pancreas) was normal so my doctor ordered an Ultrasound (Abdominal). My doctor is making me go see her Monday to get the results. I can't keep paying her if I keep taking off work to go see her. Just tell me via email, fax, snail mail or phone.

I don't drink at all and only drank occasionally when I was younger.
