my new med change- lithium. 300 mg once daily for a week, then up to 600 mg daily. i think i might titrate up more slowly given all of my recent med issues. i'm a little bit hopeful that i will start feeling better but am anxious about the s/e.
has anyone been on this? and if so, have you experienced any significant acne and/or hairloss? that's what i'm freaking out about!

generally its best to take before bed as it can make you sleepy. I would take it after eating a few soda crackers so its easier on the tummy. it will get better, but it takes a little time to kick in, you may also need to increase your dosage. GL!

I was on it for a year and had all the side effects- I felt numb, I gained 30 pounds and I had the shakes horribly, plus more panic attacks. It either does really well for folks or really bad- it was not for me! Good luck!

My pdoc wanted me on lithium. I liked the fact that it's a "natural" substance (a salt) but the weight gain side affect, plus having to have frequent blood levels checked, made me decide against it. I'm now taking seroquel which works for me, only side affect is that I was very tired at the beginning and had to lower the dosage.
I'm changing doctors and will most likely stop the seroquel soon. Lithium is back in the picture again, as I expect my symptoms (depression and bi-polar like mood swings) will come back once I stop the Seroquel. So I'm considering Lithium for the long term. It's been proven to be pretty safe. I just hope I don't get the weight gain. If I do, then I'll stop it and try another drug. All of them have some sort of potentially bad side affects. It's mostly finding whatever works for you without too many negative factors!
