Default lithium-kind of long, sorry

yesterday i went to the dr hoping for meds for add and was dx as bipolar. she said it was the most positive test she had ever seen. i do also have the symptoms of add and she said that we would probably add stratera in a couple of weeks when i go back to have blood work done.

i finally went to the gyno this summer--after almost 10 years. i had been dx with pcos almost 20 years ago now.....whoa i feel old.. i am on yasmin and metformin for that.

i was expecting to get put on wellbutrin or stratera or something like that....lithium just seems to have some scary things attached to it...i was wondering if anyone had any experiences with it.

thanks for any help.......

Lisa

Default your right long story

I too have been diag. with Bi polar.

I was diag. when I was 16. Im 22 now, and no longer on any meds for any of that kind of thing ( but Im supposed to be)

I found the lithium helped for a while... it just got to the point where the amount of lithium I needed, was too much for my body to handle. So I stopped taking it. But everyone is different. I would go with what your dr. thinks.

Im definatly not new to the whole depression thing. But Im extreamly knew to the PCOS thing.

if there is anything more you need- e-mail me. Crystalbarry04@hotmail.com

My husband is bipolar and has been on Lithium for almost 6 months. The doctor has had to gradually increase his dosage. He is now on 1200 mg a day which seems to be helping. Like you, he did not want to go on it because of things he had heard about it, but the doctor attempted the Wellbutrin and a few other drugs, but the only thing that has helped is the Lithium. He really has not had any bad side effects from it either. The only thing to make sure of is that the doctor monitors your Lithium level with blood tests on occassion.

i wanted to thank both of you for your responses...
i need all the help i can get
the nausea has finally subsided. when i would wake up in the am i would feel so sick until about 3 in the afternoon...i think it was the combination of the metformin and the lithium at the same time at bedtime. i have now changed to taking the last dose of metformin earlier and then the lithium just as i am about to doze off...
i am going to see the dr that prescribed the lithium tomorrow..she seems nice--i don't agree with her opinion on pcos though...she basically said that if i lost 100 lbs i wouldn't have the pcos.....i do have a dr-or at least his nurse practitioner that i like alot for the pcos and i go see them next month...
i hope everyone has a great week.....
thanks again...
