Default of lithium and mood stabilization

when i go back to the psychiatrist next week, we're going to sort out my meds. i am currently on:

cymbalta 60 mg po once daily
klonopin 0.5 mg po qam; 1 mg po qpm
seroquel 25-50 mg po qbedtime prn insomnia

she mentioned a few mood stabilizers, but wants to get my old medical records and do some research before rx'ing anything b/c of the pcos and my other medical conditions. i think we're choosing between trileptal, lamictal and topamax. she mentioned lithium as an option for the future (i am going to have gastric bypass and since it has such a narrow therapeutic range, she won't put me on it until my weight stabilizes.)

has anyone been on lithium? if so, did it help? did you have any s/e on it? i'm very interested to hear people's experiences b/c it does seem that this drug is coming back into vogue.

I was on Lithium for about a year. I found that it helped my depression/manic phases greatly. I was on 900mg which is a lower dose, but found that it made me too relaxed/tired. At the time it was just what I needed but I haven't been on it for about 10mos. Best of luck to you!!

I went once a month in the beginning, for about 3mos...Then I went once every six months since my dose didn't change I didn't see the need. I know that many people go once every 3mos. HTH
