Default Little to no negative side effects...

Started Met a week ago and I'm up to 1000mg (500 in the am, 500 in the pm.)

I've had little to no negative side effects. One bout of dizziness and nausea and a extra trips to the bathroom during the first few days.

Is there any indication that met is less effective for folks that don't seem to experience the negative side effects?

I'm still learning about PCOS - I've bought a number of books and beening reading a ton. I'm slowly easing into the IR diet/lifestyle. Been exercising 4-5 times a week on the elliptical and doing free weights for strength training.

I've been stunned by the loss of appetite. Before being diagnosed I was really going batty because nothing I did seemed to help stem the weight gain and until starting Met I never realized how I was constantly hungry regardless of how much or what I had eaten.

The weird thing is that even though I'm not hungry I'm in the habit of eating more than I am hungry for now. I'm trying to keep busy so that I don't eat out of boredom. Have others had this issue?

Definitely, I have been on met for just a week and already I'm not as hungry. But I find myself in the kitchen out of habit. I am looking for ways to stay as far away from the kitchen as possible. Good thing I head back to school tomorrow.

Spin, Are you overwhelmed by all you have read? I know I am. The one comfort is that the books all seem to agree on the major points. I am also easing into the diet. I haven't found one that is just a diet. I think I'm learning that it is a lifestyle change. Not a diet.

I'm on information overload here.

I bought three different books and I've been reading everything I can find online.

Like you I'm easing into the IR diet. I had done south beach twice before with alot of success (one two year old daughter and one additional pregnancy that miscarried - both as a result of south beach which helped me ovulate - this was before I was diagnosed.)

I don't have my blood work all done yet so I'm not totally sure if I'm insulin resistant on top of PCOS but I want to get on IR just to be as healthy as possible.

I'm learning alot. Its been really interesting to read about the differences between south beach and IR and learning about Glycemic Index and Load.

Thinking about trying to take up knitting or something... might help with the boredom eating.

I hope that met is just as effective in us gals who have no negative side effects at all. I'm really interested to find out and I'm gonna ask my doctor about that. Great question!

I started Met last week at 500 mg; the plan was 500 the first week, 1000 mg the second week, and then up to 1500mg (the full dose) by the third week. Last week went really well, I was not craving any sweets, just mild nausea and not even much of that. THEN I started the 2 pills a day this week and it all went down hill fast. I woke up Monday morning nauseated and kept hitting the snooze button... when I finally did get out of bed the first thing I did after my shower was throw up... all the way to the bathroom where the other end of my digestive tract what having its say. It was a night mare. And continued like that until last night where I ended up not managing to get the second dose down.
I called and talked to my Dr. today and we all agreed that the 500 mg will be good for a bit longer. I am VERY happy with that decision!!
I am hoping that this (the 500 mgs) will be all I need.

Today is day 5 of 1000mg (500mg am and 500mg pm) and I'm still doing great. I had a few sips of wine last night and got pretty dizzy but I had a very small dinner and exercised after that so I'm not sure if it was the Met or just a mostly empty stomach. It passed quickly.

My follow up is next week and I'm wondering if they'll increase me to 1500mg or if they will wait to see what my results are on the 1000mg for a while longer.
