I took my sugar today and it turned out to be 158 that is pretty high right! It was after i ate lunch and yesterday I ate too many homemake cookies and I also am having my period, I don't know if that makes a difference? but still that is high. I am sooo scared of diabetes and I know I will get it someday but I was hoping I would avoid it until at least my late 30's! That is when my mom found out she had it. I am currently trying to lose weight and exercising. But is there anything else that I can do?
If you took it less than 2 hours after you ate, I would panic over it. Take it before you eat. If it is consistently reading that much above 119, which is the cut off for pre-diabetes, then you probably need to talk to your doctor about it.

My Level Stays Between 90-115 Normally...after I Eat It Can Jump Over 150 To 200 Depending On What I Ate, The Kicker Is-it Comes Down Rather Quickly-within An Hour Or Sooner- If You Wake Up And Its Over 120...maybe You Want To See Your Dr About Doing A Glucose Tolerance...it Will Really Tell The Dr How Your Body Metabolizes (?) Sugar. Unfortunately For Me, I Never Heard The Warnings I Was Getting From My Dr And I Was Rushed To The Hospital With Blood Sugar Over 500 After Getting Stupid At Work. I Really Watch It Now And My A1c Is 5.2 From 11.6 I Think Met-actos-diet Are Working For Me

My endo told me that if your readings come down to normal range two hours after you eat, then its okay. It is when it goes high and takes a while to come back down that you need to worry. After I eat it takes my blood sugar over 4 hrs to come back down to normal sometimes, depending on what I ate and how long it was since I took my meds. I hope this helps. I would recommend you speaking with your doctor...

I'd definately see the doctor!
In the meantime, over-dose on water, and maybe try not to eat too many carbs and test it again after a meal with less carbs and see if it is any better.
Have you adjusted your portion size? That was the big thing with my blood sugar at the beginning.
When your sugars are high, my doctor told me to drink lots of water and if you can exercise a bit. Those things bring it down, but be careful not to let it drop too far ~ that can be an awful feeling!
Don't put off going to the doctor too long.
If you haven't paid attention to your portion size, now's the time to do it!

You can't go based on that BGL reading alone... You have to take your blood sugar @ a designated time after the meal... The normal time windows are 2 hours after the meal or 1 hour after the meal... 2 hours is most common it seems... Also a fasting BGL would be a good indicator of where you are... that's 7-8 hours of no eating & as soon as you rise in the morning as possible...
1 hours goals are under 150-155 & 2 hours 120-130... Fasting 110 or less...
These are the #s the diabetic clinic gave me for checking... My OB tighten them down b/c I'm PG..
I think you would need several readings charted unless you had a tolerance test done by your physician...
