I received results from my second set of ultrasounds and I have new cysts. I have been on Yaz for 2 months and hadn't known any difference. I never got a diagnosis and I just feel frustrated. I have been on three diets and keep gaining. I went from an athlete body to being obese. My mother says I need to eat less, which if I did, I would probably have to stop eating. I called and made an emergency appointment with my OBGYN since I had a period of a couple hours and have had constant pain in my uterus and ovaries. I still feel really tired and growing hair everywhere. I'm just frustrated.
Welcome to SC. Difficulty looseing weight is a problem with about half of all women with PCOS. Mostly it can be attributed to insulin resistance. Metformin helps some ladies loose weight, but you also have to have a good diet to go with it. If I eat grains, even with the Met. I gain weight. Without the grains I loose slowly, but I don't gain. Every cyster is different, so it may take you a while to find what foods cause you to gain weight. I can eat ketcup filled with sugar by the bucket and i don't gain weight. I eat a bowl of no sugar oatmeal and I gain a pound. My Mom is having a horrible time loosing weight and I think she has PCOS. She was on Metformin, but had to go off of it beause of a rare reaction. You should get checked for IR and check out the diets section. There are a lot of success stories on this board!
Thanks for replying. My mother lost weight instantly once she was on some thyroid medication. She does have cysts but she doesn't know what PCOS is and doesn't believe that cysts can cause weight gain. I recently found out that my aunt on my father's side had cysts and there is suspect of PCOS because of weight, cysts, and body hair. I haven't seen her in years so I don't know for sure. Unfortunately, there aren't that many women in my family but there is history of infertility and miscarriage. It took my mom 6 years to conceive my brother.
People in my family, even those with PCOS like symptoms didn't have a lot of trouble getting pregnant. I think my Grandmother was at least a carrier for PCOS, but had seven kids. I think my Mom has PCOS, but she doesn't think a dx is necessary since she is post menopausal. Not all ladies with PCOS have cysts and not all ladies with cysts hav PCOS, so it can be confusing. Even docs often seem to be confused about what causes the symptoms in PCOS. Some just give women BCPs and send them away telling them to loose weight and all their problems will go away.
I have heard a lot of cysters complaining about pelvic pain. Some have it due to cysts, others due to endometeriosis I think. Some articles have some good info, and some flawed info. A few articles I have read were way off on a few points, but had some salvageable info.
The TINY string of pearl cysts might not cause pain, but other ladies have larger cysts and some burst causing pain. The larger cysts can grow so large they cause extreme pain. Endometriosis and even ovulation can cause pain. I have never had that kind of pain at all, but some cysters have pain that makes them almost unable to function at times.
