Default Liver Cleanse

Has anyone taken a liver cleanse supplement? I started taking one this week and my acne is worse. I'm wondering if it's b/c all the bad stuff is flushing out through my skin and it will get better or if it's just making it worse and it won't get better.

I would have thought it's flushing you out. I do detoxes and my acne definitely gets worse around the time I do it.

Thanks. It's pretty amazing how bad it's gotten so fast. It's weird though b/c the white heads pop up and then once I drain them they pretty much go away. I usually don't have much of a problem with clogged pores mostly cysts but I don't think I have a pore that isn't clogged right now. I think it looks a little better today.

Default natural liver cleanse

I was given this recipe from a holistic nutrisionist...

1 glass of apple juice (preferably not from concentrate, try freshly pressed)
1 clove of garlic
juice of a lemon
1 table spoon of extra virgin olive oil

put in a blender whizz up. It sounds gross but actually it is v refreshing and you cant taste the garlic. Have it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Aim to do it 3-4 times a week. It cleanses your liver, dont leave out the oil even if you are trying to slim as this is v important and olive oil is good fat and not saturated. I find it works a treat.

The acne is from your system getting rid of the toxins - your skin is the largest organ your body has.

I was also given a recipe for a "full body cleanse". I'll look for it and scan it in for you tonight. It uses actual dried herbs, so it costs less and lasts longer than any of the tablets or capsule cleanses that are "on the shelf".

Ok, it took some looking but I found the sheet with the information and recipe on the total body cleanse.

Areas cleansed include: kidney, liver, gallbladder, blood, stomach, skin, lungs, lymph, and gastric system. It also includes general tonic, digestive tonic, nervine, internal healer, nutritive and antiseptic properties.

The file was to big to attach to this post.

If you follow the link below you can find the file (PDF or JPG) off my web server:

I just started yesterday which means I've had a period last month and this month something must be working. I've noticed I getting lots of spots and I'm not a spotting person i think its get all the rubbish coming out of my system.

I have never heard of these, so please bear with me here. So these cleansing techniques (particularly interested in the apple juice one) really work?

So, do you just take this in addition to your normal day and are allowed to eat etc? Kind of like maybe replace breakfast with it?

Man, I feel so clueless. lol TIA!

CLeansing, one of my favorite subjects, and what I do for a living. Your situation is quite common.

Your liver is your most important organ of elimination. When it is clogged or failing to detoxify properly all other organs of detoxification can become bogged down. (Organs of elimination are: liver, lungs, kidney, skin, bowel, plus two organs which transport - the blood and lymph.)

Since organs such as your skin and lungs are less capable than the liver, they have difficulty keeping up with the increased load which happens when cleansing. Also, when you have liver issues, it is possible to see them in your skin because in leiu of a way of letting the toxins out through the liver to the colon or kidney, your body will try to get them out whatever way they can.

So, as much as the breakouts can seem tedious, they are a 'good' sign, which some practitioners refer to as a 'cleansing crisis'.

For great info on this topic, you can read a book by Bruce Fife called 'The Detox Book," or you can find free information that the company I work for publishes, and offers through health food stores. (I work for Renew Life Formulas)

My personal opinion, despite the fact that I know there are great commercial products out there for cleansing, is that whole foods can be the best way to promote your body's own process of elimination. Sulfurous foods, cruciferous foods, as well as fiber and fresh produce can realy help you. I've done many liver cleanses which are just herbs and lemons and apple juice, as well as botanical and nutrient products sold through health food stores. You can induce a cleansing crisis with either type.

Hope you get through the 'cleansing' part quick, and feel the increased energy, clearer mind and skin that typically results in the end!

Best, cassy.

Intersesting you mention cruciferous foods....

Work has been ongoing in my kitchen (painting, and such) so for the past 2 or 3 weeks, I've been eating (almost daily) from this Middle Eastern take out restaurant near me. What do I get every day? Cauliflower! (a double order).
They steam it and then broil it with some olive oil and garlic, and then put lemon juice and spices on it.

I've never been a cauliflower person, but that stuff is better than any french fry (yesterday, I got 4 orders so I could have some for breakfast - yes, it's THAT good.)

Anyway...

This past weekend, I had to work, and ran into some of the management people from my company who hadn't seen me in several weeks. ALL of them comment that my skin looked AMAZING. One asked me if I had just had a facial, and another asked if I had been on vacation 'or somethin' (since my skin always looks great when I come back from my 'fasting cleanse' in Thailand.)

The only MAJOR change I made in my diet was the dramatically increased consumption of cauliflower.

BTW, I had a bad acne 'jag' a few months back. Turns out the culprit was the blanket on my bed. Now I have cheap cotton blankets so I can wash them every week with my sheets. The acne is gone. Of course this won't have an effect on a hormonal issue, but if there's anything on your blankets contributing to the problem, it's best to wash, wash, wash...
