Default Lo Estrin 24

I NEED HELP!
I was diagnosed with pcos since I was 15 years old. I have been on pretty much every birth control. I went on metformin with yaz and lost 8 pounds well my periods were so heavy I was going through about 8 tampons a day. I was told to get off metformin because there was no significant weight loss and was put on Lo Estrin 24. I HAVE BLOWN UP! I eat well and limit my carbs along with staying active and exercising regualrly. I can't even fit into my jeans just in this past month. I am so depressed because I have gone up and down in weight my whole life but now it is getting out of control recently. What should I do? Does anybody have any advice? Should I try the metformin again?

Before being diagnosed with PCOS I ate pretty well and exercised regularly and didn't know why I couldn't lose the weight. After being diagnosed, I was put on metformin and built myself up to 2000 mg a day. The weight melted off after that with diet and exercise. My doc explained to me that staying away from foods that produce the most insulin (bad carbs) were a must. I was able to drop 45 lbs in 8 months. Sometimes it was a few pounds here... sometimes it was a lot at once. I've been able to keep it off for over a year. I've also been able to incorporate having bad carb splurges that dont effect my progress. All in moderation.

My college roommate was diagnosed shortly after me. Her doctor had her on a much smaller metformin dosage even with diet and exercise she wasn't seeing any progress and got very discouraged. After about a year of this, I finally persuaded her to go see my doctor and get another opinion because for me metformin at a higher dosage was the key component and I felt she needed that to see progress. She went to my doc, who prescribed her with the higher dosage and she is finally starting to see the few pounds her and there are slowly adding up.

When you were on metformin, how much were you taking?

PS - when i first got on metformin, I hadn't had a period in a while and it instantly started it a week after I started metformin. Then it wouldn't stop, so the doc gave me birth control to stop the periods from going on and on. So you just have to find the right balance with your doc. I'm on Loestrin 24.
