Excellent usfirefly, I am glad you changed Dr.s and that she is doing an insulinresistance test. It's a MUST DO when being diagnosed with PCOs.
Keep us updated. would like to know what the new Dr. is doing!
BCPs and especially antiandrogen BCPs are so harsh medications.....
One thing you need to watch out for when doing the insulin resistance test:
-Fasting for 10 hours
-Do not smoke before or during the test (if you are a smoker...)
-Make sure your test is NOT being done while having your menses, 3 days before and als not 3 days after.
-When you get the glucose drink, don't drink it fast, drink it within 3 minutes but take no longer than 5 minutes.
VERY IMPORTANT guidelines that the World Health Organization has. Some doctors do not follow it for some odd reason...but to have a true test result you should follow at least these 3 points.
Keep in touch!

Ogtt test for insulin resistance/takes 2 hours? (can't stress it enough on how important that is when you have a diagnosis of PCO)
ACTH Test to rule out late-onset AGS too.....also a test that takes 2 hours
Thyroid checked?
Is your Dr. an endocrinologist? Diane 35 is such a harsh antiandrogen....
Would like to hear your story. I had to search 2 years for a pyhsician who did the "right things" for once and didn't misdiagnose me like all the others did.
Cheers,
Lana

thanks soo much for the information, i donīt know yet when she is going to do it... since i chanced doctors she wants to see first what testresults i already have, but it seems to take forever to get that from my old doctor, because she is susposed to call me as soon as she has the results, now it is already since 4 days that i am waiting, and since the insulinresistance test came up, i googled the symptoms and the riskfactors of diabetes... and i have been having some of those for some time now... for example i have been drinking like no good and always on my way to the bathroom, i am always thirsty.. even after drinking two bottles of water...it is no fun, i even have to get up at night like 5 times to drink water and get rid of it...
If your new doc does not have the labs from your old doc by Monday, I'd go to the old gyn and ask the med. assistant for copies of the lab and have her hand it out to you......
Sometimes they either have a lot to do that they forget about easy tasks as "sending copies" or they take their sweet time as you are switching to another gyn. Either way, light some fire under their butts .
An insuline resistance test is long overdue in your case!!!!
cheers,
lana

Im trying to remeber my mestration history, i dont remeber much but later in highschool i started getting irregular periods, really heavy bad cramps. Then they start coming less and less. maybe 4-5 periods a year. Some months apart. Sometimes one right after the other. Maybe two weeks after my period stopped. I know iv tried about four bc. Everyone of them made me crash into a bad depression. Ive had hair problems since i can remeber. My hair starts at my toes all the way up to my thighs, tummy, breasts and face. My gyno put me on diane-35 and im hoping this doesnt effect my mood. If it does ill start to notice in 3-4 days. I was prepared for my gyno apt. but it happened so fast that i didnt even get to say or ask the things i wrote down. I kept saying i wanted to do something about my hair, so im showing him and he brused my hand away. there nothing you can do he says. Never mind that he said. Ok. Last time he said research pcos then he mentions after i refuse yaz that to many women come in say what they already want. OHHHHH. My test read NORMAl whatever that means. I should have asked for a copy. Just testosterone is slightly elevated as well as the choleterol. Now im more confused after my apt. then i was before my apt. I really dumbfounded.
thank you soo much for your support... it is nice to know that actually somebody reads all this mess i am trying to deal with.
the last week was horrible, if i would have to describe it i would say i was pregnant..( is not possible i am still a virgin,)
i had really bad morningsickness and felt nauseous all the time, my smell was extra sensitive, and i couldnīt eat anything until noon that i would eat a little snack and i would be okay...
so as i finally decided i would go back to the doctor the next morning... because it was horrible, it just stopped... that morning i felt great... totally awesome..
i donīt know what that was or what... but it was soo weird...
i will tell her about it the next time i have an appointment.
and yes i will go and get my testresults from the old doctor on monday..
because i really want to get on diffrent medicing and i want to get it adjusted before i have to leave america...
so that i already know about it and can find a doctor that is okay...
oh what i wanted to ask,
what does the glucose drink taste like??? is it really yucky sweet??? does it smell??
do they make you wait there or are you suspossed to come back in two hours.. how did you entertain yourself???
i am a llittle scared,
and what is that other two hour test you where talking about??? never heard of it...
i just had regular bloodwork done, so testosterone level, urine pregnancytest,
but no 2 hour tests at all...
and i got a external ultrasound done... and a papsmear,
thats all i know.. unless they did some tests and didnīt tell me about..

thank you soo much canīt wait to hear from you

Sounds like they did not do that much work on you labwise. It would be better in Germany that you go to an endocrinologist instead of a gyn for your hormones.....(just to let you know). To which area are you moving to in Germany, maybe I can recommend a good endocrinologist if I know one in your area.
The ogtt (glucose tolerance test) is totally harmless. Take a book with you to read...Definitely do not leave the office EVEN IF THE Dr.'s office says you can. Walking around a lot can influence results. Also make sure your ogtt appointment is done NOT 3 days before, during, and not 3 days after your period! Also, make sure when she orders the test that she includes INSULIN serum to be measured as well. Otherwise she cannot make a diagnosis of insulin resistance of course. But you never know with these Doctors. On rare occasions, I wonder if they graduated from clown college instead of Medical school....LOL.
The glucose drink (if the same as in Germany) is harmless and tastes like grape juice. Again, make sure NOT to drink it too fast. Minimum 3 minutes to 5.
Follow this link, as there are some soulcysters seem to have had it done before too. The link is helpful, I think
NO worries about the glucose tolerance test...take a good book with you or some music.
The other 2 hour test (ACTH Stimulation test) I had was for the adrenal glands. To rule out if my elevated male hormones is caused by it. There is a hereditary disease called "late-onset CAH". But that was ruled out with me anyways. A sign that something might be wrong with the hormones coming from the adrenals are: elevated DHEAS and elevated 17a-OH Progesteron.
Sooooo, do you know if your gyn has checked your Thyroid levels?? Also a must do when you have PCOs. Maybe your new gyn can do those as well.
Plus, don#t be discouraged if the new Dr. is not as good either....I had to go through 4 endocrinologist to finally find someone that LISTENS to me and did the right tests. NOt everyone is a textbook case of PCOs or insulin resistance.
Remember, always take a copie of your labs with you when you get the results!!!! Just tell them you like to keep your own record of your medical history......
It would be nice to have a "Dr. House" around for real, right? hehehehe.
P.S. Do you speak german?
Cheers,
Lana

Reason: spelling error
When I first told my doctors about missing periods for at least 6 months, they went straight to BCP. I was on that for almost 5 years. When I told my gyno that my husband and I wanted to get pregnant soon, she did the ultrasound. That is when I found out. That really sucked becuase I went for so long not knowing why I couldn't have a period with out BCP. I am just thankful for the dr i am seeing now and that she did the tests.
