I have been on met for almost 4 months.
My labs last month were considered normal. My lh:fsh went from 3:1 to 2:1.4. I am a thin cysters not IR and I've been doing some low carbing and I go to acupuncture.
Before my cycles were 34-37 days. Since starting Met they have been 40,47 and it looks like I'm heading toward another long one (I'm on day 23 still waiting for that O). I know 4 months isn't very long on met but I don't understand why my cycles haven't gotten shorter. If I sound impatient it could be because I'm on my 8th day in a row of bd. But really, if my bloodwork is normal, why the heck won't my body O sooner?
I know how frustrating it is starting met..my cycles would hum along at 30-ish days, and then whoops 60-ish. But the truth is, our body has to be given time to get things straight hormonally, and sometimes that can be a longer journey than we'd like. And just because your lab values are in the normal ranges, doesn't mean that is normal for *your* body. As my Dr says, these lab guidelines are just that..guidelines. And normal for each person varies a little. Finding what is normal for you is based on what it takes for your body to work the way it is supposed to, not just keeping your nubers in the "normal" values.
If you aren't already, consider moderating your carbs. My first year on met my cycles were downright bizarre, and after I started moderating my carbs to about 70-100 g a day, my cycles went from 35-31 days like clockwork. I did a lot of reading, and found that this was because if we don't moderate carbs, we can spike our insulin, counter-acting what the drug is supposed to be doing. So if you can do this, it can really help our hormone levels which is advantagous to our cycles.
If you don't get AF within about 3 months, I would approach your Dr about progesterone cream or provera to shed that uterine lining. You need to do that every 3 mos or so to keep the risk of certain cancers down.
Hope the AF fairy surprises you soon!

I just have to say that if I had been through 8 straight days of bd, I would be in a really good mood! LOL
Seriously, it sounds like your body is getting used to the changes and will need some more time. The labs are great news, but you might need them to look like that for a few months before your timing is faster.
Let us know how it goes,
Sheri

I know how you feel about long cycles. I stopped BCP back in May, and in September had not seen AF and had tried provera, prometrium, and nothing brought on AF. I then started 50mg of Clomid and hyperstimulated so badly that I had all of this fluid trapped, so I had an ultrasound done, and found that I had all of these pearl cysts on my ovaries. This is when dr said he believed I had PCOS. I am also a thin person, and the only side effects I know I've ever had is acne. So to make a long story short, a week after I had the ultrasound, AF showed, and I haven't seen her again. I took a couple of months off with no meds, and I'm now taking 1500mg of metformin. I'm now on CD 46, and praying this medicine will work for me soon so my body will start working. My dr said if I'm not pregnant within 2 months, that he wants me to try to stay on the metformin and also take a lower dosage of clomid with it. I just wish I knew what was going on with my body, and that it would work for me!! Sorry to be so long, but I'm looking to make some friends who understand like you all do!!

I don't want to discourage you, but it often takes more than 2 mos to get your hormones regulating on met. My Dr tried to tell me if Met hadn't worked in 6 months it wouldn't and threatened to pull me off it. I talked him into a few more months and I O'd after 9 months, so his RUSH to get things started was just his impatience, and our bodies have time schedules of their own.
I know how hard it is, but try to be patient ok? Our hormones took years to get bungled and they can take some time, no matter how badly the Dr's try to rush us. I found clomid just BRUTAL and knowing what i do about met now, I'd give it more time alone before I started the clomid...but that's just my 2 cents (for what's it's worth).
We're all hoping for good things for you soon. All the best!

Amy - I am also a thin cyster with some of those string of pearls cysts. I've always had long cycles but I feel like they are only getting longer even though I now low carb and take Met (3 mos). I know my body must be getting used to the Met but since my last blood tests were normal I don't know what is up with this body!! So, I understand how you feel but we must keep with it, even in our confusion.
My RE has said that whenever I am ready, she will start me on clomid. But, i'm going to give met and the low carb thing more time... fingers crossed.
best wishes.
