I just started Yasmin a little over a week ago...on the first day of my period. Now my period is on its 9th day! Before I started the BC, they were somewhat irregular as far as length in between period, but they were always 5-6 days. Has anyone had this happen when starting birth control?
I'd deffinetly call the dr. I always start bc after my period ends, so that hasen't happened to me. although I was tjust on Yasmin, horrible leg pains and now I'm off of it, in between starting my new kind. second day of my period and it's the heaviest I've seen in a long time.

I am having the same problem... I'm just going to try to ride it out until my next cycle and see if it corrects itself.
I started Yazmin 9 days ago and have been bleeding and cramping pretty much the whole time. My Dr. told me that it may take a couple of months for my body to adjust and my periods to regulate and lighten (please God!)

I have the same problem. It's really annoying... I am going on my 3rd week of it now. That is exactly how long I have been on Yaz... I feel like I am drowing in it. I had no idea that it could be this heavy. Ugh.
I too plan to try and ride it out. Good luck to us! We are so brave!
When I was first diagnosed with PCOS Yasmin was the pill of my doctors choice so I went on it. I bled heavy with lots of huge clots for over 3 months on it. I called my doc after the first month and she told me to quit whining, it would take time for my body to adjust to it. At the end of the second month I called again and got the same response. At the end of the third month I called and wanted to make an appointment because I had bleed heavy constantly for 3 months and I was drained and tired all the time and just couldn't take it anymore and guess what I was told? Quit whining, just keep taking it. So I made an appointment with another doc in the group there and he took me off of it instantly and the bleeding stopped right away. A month later he put me on another pill (sorry I can't remember which one) and spiro and the heavy bleeding started almost instantly so he had me quit the spiro and the bleeding stopped right away so we decided that my body does not like spiro. Long story, sorry.

Thank you for sharing this! I will keep it in mind if my problem continues.
Well I've given up. After 3 weeks of horrific bleeding and debilitating cramps, I've given up and stopped the Yasmin mid-cycle.
I'm going to start to try to control my PCOS with low-carbing for a while. I'm so sick of medications that don't work!
I've been bleeding or had heavy spotting every day since starting. It hasn't been as strong as my period but I've had bad cramping non-stop. My gyno mentioned that it's pretty normal to bleed for a long time after starting. I've just started my third week of Yasmin,
I have been on Yasmin for the past three months, before that I was taking Orthocyclen. The only time I ever had an issue with orthocylcen was when I was under EXTREME stress, or taking antibiotics. Then I would get a coupld of days of mid-cycle spotting.
With Yasmin, I have had pretty much non-stop bleeding since I started. There have been about 4 days each month without any bleeding. I called my Dr. during the first month and she said that it may take 3 months to "regulate". So I waited the three months... And STILL bleeding continuously. I called the Dr. again yesterday and she told me that I'll need a higher dose BCP.
In the meantime my blood pressure is all out of whack, and she told me to stop taking BCPs all together because they will make my blood pressure worse. She's now concerned that increasing to a more potent BCP will really mess up my blood pressure.
Grrr.... I hate getting a run around from the Dr. When I went to her a few months ago (she prescribed Yasmin), I told her that I didn't want to take BCPs anymore, and she said that with the severity of my PCOS that I really needed to in order to have AF. She said that unless we were actively TTC that I needed to stay on it. Now she tells me to stop NOW!! I'm so confused!!
I had the same problem with Yasmin. Except I started bleeding after a pack and a half of the pills. I was hospitalized because I was having labor like pains in my lower back and lower belly. I passed a huge clot, after that the pain was mild but I took myself off of yasmin. When I went to the doctor ( because he was on vaction when I went to the hospital) He told me he wanted to do a hysterectomy. He didnt even look at the ultrasounds they took. My ovaries and uterus are in good shape. With the exception of a few cysts. I found another doctor. One that wont put me on birthcontrol pills.

I came home from work early today because I just could not handle the cramps. I've always had bad cramps and I've been prescribed Naproxen, but now that I'm taking Yasmin the Naproxen most often does NOTHING. It used to always help. And now the flow is getting heavier! I'm beginning to wonder how much bleeding can there actually be until I drop over

Have you checked with your dr?? They may want you to stop taking that pill. I really hope that you feel better soon!!

I stopped taking Yasmin mid-cycle because the cramps and bleeding were so horrific. Of course my Dr said that was "normal" for the first few months... I'm sorry but there is nothing "normal" about bleeding profusely for months! It's your body's way of telling you that the pills are harmful.
Please consider reading "What your doctor may not tell you about pre-menopause". After reading it - I'll never take BCPs again. Too scary.
