Default Long's Fry It Right

Has anyone tried Long's Fry It Right as breading/coating when frying or baking things? I came across it today on the web and was wondering how it tasted, and whether it's worth it. Here's what one website had to say:

"Long's Fry it Right is a protein based food coating for low carb food. Long's Fry it Right has no cholesterol, sugar, starch, and less than 1 gram of carbohydrates per 10 gram serving making it the perfect choice for coating chicken, pork, fish or vegetables.

People watching their blood sugar levels are able to enjoy foods fried in canola oil using Long's Fry it Right without concerns of raising their blood sugar making our coating perfect for your fried diabetic food."

Just wondering...

Hey Eljaustin,

Your post piqued my interest so I thought I would look at this Fry it Right. Once of the things that I have learned from dieting in general is to not just look at what the item is, but to look at the ingredients. I have PCOS and hypothyroid, so there is a whole slew (sp?) of things I try and avoid whether they are low carb or not. So, anyway, I looked at the ingredients and the second item on the list is partially hydrogenated soy bean oil, also know as Trans Fats. I don't know if you've ever heard of these before but they are NOT healthy at all. They are a major cause of high cholesterol for many people. I can't speak for you but I know that one of the symptoms of my PCOS is that my cholesterol is out of whack, and this would make it worse. So, ultimately its your decision, but I would stay away from it.

Default I agree

Hi Bunny,

I agree with what you're saying about always checking the ingredients, and I actually did that before I posted it. I was just wondering if anyone tried it though. I'm sure there are some people who would like to splurge a tiny bit very occasionally. Let's face it, some people are willing to risk 1/2 a gram of transfats every couple of months. I was curious if anyone had tried it, and what it tasted like.

Happy healthy eating (well, we're trying anyway!)

I found this response on a low carb forum I used to post on. Hope it helps.

"I've tried it, I really don't think it tastes all that good- okay that's being nice, it was awful ! If you really want fried chicken w/ breading, try a mix of parmesan cheese, almond flour, and spices to suit your flavor (I use garlic salt and corsely ground pepper)."
