Post Long terms PCOS treament, BCP's etc

I'm not sure where to post this message... but here it goes. I need some insight on how to treat my PCOS - here's a little history.

I was diagosed with PCOS while ttc in 1998. With the help of a RE, I have 15 month old twin boys. Now I'm need to make sure that I take care of myself for my boys.

I developed gestational diabetes during my pregnancy the endocrinologist I saw then, put me on metformin as a preventative measure in a post-delivery follow-up last year. I was also put on BCP (brand name is Micronor) by the nurse practioner I saw 8 weeks post-delivery (my OB was on call).

My prescriptions are running out and I have an appointment with my OB in a couple of weeks. I have been off the pill for a couple of weeks and have had a lot of stop-me-in-my-tracks ovary pain for the last few days. Has anyone experienced this? And could it be from being off the BCP's?

For those of you that take BCP's and Met, are there any combinations that are better than others?

Also, what kind of Dr. do you see regularly for PCOS treatment? Due to health insurance changes, I can't go to the RE that first diagnosed me. And I need referrals from my primary to see anyone other than a once a year visit to my OB/GYN.

Thanks for your help.

I think many women get help from their OB/Gyn. Just make sure they are willing to work with you and know about PCOS. You may need to educate them a bit. I know mine got more interested when I came in with articles-then she did some of her own checking!

Are you still diabetic? I know I have lots of ovarian pain when not on the pill. Many women use metformin and the pill. I think any pill that has a progestin that agrees with you will work. Possibly try one lower in estrogen since the met. should help your nadrogen levels anyway. Why take medication you do n 't need! You may even be able to quit the bc pills someday if the met. helps regulate you. I'm sure bc is in order since you have twin babies and don't want a repeate quite yet. I took Avandia for 3 months without bc pills and it not only regulated me but I ovulated so be careful if you're not ready to get p.g. Unfortunately I had to quit the Avandia because of swelling.

BEst of luck to you!

Thanks Chrissy. I appreciate your advice.

I'm no longer diabetec - thank goodness. I'm hoping my OB will able to get me on the right combo of meds for me. This is my third day in a row with a lot of pain so I'm anxious to figure it all out.

Again - thanks for the support.
