I'm really glad I found this site. There's information I found here that I didn't see anywhere else.
Anyhoot, I'm Amanda, and I'm 30. For years I've had no period, hard to lose weight that I put on, really tired after certain foods (so tired that I just pass out for hours), hair on the chin, upper lip and other strange places, acne, multiple follicles on ovaries, inability to conceive and when I did it was ectopic....hmmm....yeah, I'm pretty sure I've got PCOS. They just realized that is what it was about a year ago, after I had been going back and forth to the doctor for different tests all the time. The only test that proved any of this was my elevated glucose.
I never wanted to take the BCPs for regulating my period, but ended up doing that, and it's great. In fact, I didn't want to take any kind of medication, for I fear the pharmaceutical industry. So, now I'm on YAZ, Spironolactone (I can never say that!) and Metformin. So far so good, no bad side effects at all. I guess I'm lucky in that aspect...when I was on Cephalexin for acne, I was supposed to get a yeast infection, but that never happend Before the meds, I cut out all potatoes, rice...refined foods and such, and I did manage to lose 8 pounds or so. But still get the cravings. From what I hear, the Metformin is supposed to help curb those cravings, which is awesome. I love veggies anyway, so I'm good to go!
I love that PCOS is finally surfacing as a real problem, that more and more doctors are becoming familiar. Hopefully when women go in with these types of symptoms, it won't be a long guessing game anymore, and it can be taken care of BEFORE any real damage is done. Good luck ladies!!
Welcome to SC, you will like it here and will learn alot!! It looks like you've gotten past the first hurdle by finding a doctor that understands PCOS. It took me quite a few doctors to find one that knew how to deal with it. Mine told me that I must stay on met and BCP forever. I'm glad you found us!!

Long time unknown PCOS....new to Soulcysters
