Hi my DH and I are also considering adoption if we cannot concieve, but he is a diabetic. I know there are some medical problems that cause people to be unable to adopt. I was just wondering if this was one of them? And can anyone tell me if this is the case with domestic and international? I've googled this, ask jeeves this question and can't find the answer anywhere. I'm hoping you smart girlys can help!!! THANKS!!!

I can only speak for adoptions from China b/c that's what we're doing. As far as I know, as long as his dr said his illness wouldn't affect his parenting of longevity then it would be fine. His dr would have to write a letter if he's on any medication (I'm assuming insulin) about what he takes, for what, and about the parenting & longevity.
Good Luck!

As far as what I've seen or read about is if there is an exteme reason why it would effect parenting. The the dr would need to explain the condition and explain that its under control it would not effect parenting in any way, that its been under control an how its controled. etc
There should be no problem. Best option is to talk to an agency
Exactly...if its controlled and he is responsible (which I have no doubt he *has* to be) and it wont affect his parenting then I cannot imagine anyone having an issue with this...there are so many people in the world who conceive and birth babies that have diabetes so... ?
Talk to your agency to make sure

You cysters have been extremely helpful. I finally found a website the NAIC (national adoption information clearinghouse) they don't speak for everyone, but so far is seems as if this won't affect us. and i'm ECSTATIC!!! i mean we're not gonna start the process for about another year (we need to save money and we want to get a bigger apt) but we also don't want to jump in this huge paper process with no clue. so when the thought came to me that we might be exempt medically because of josh's type 1 diabetes i kinda panicked. thank you for all of you who answered!!! Now that we know in most situations this won't affect us, we're THRILLED! THANKS AGAIN!!!! And thanks for the warm welcome Lisa!!!! *HUGS*
