I was diagnosed with PCOS about 10 years ago. I have also been told a few years ago that i do not have any cysts on my overies. I belive that I do have PCOS though. Weight Gain, Facial hair, and other symtoms have led me to believe that. But yet then again my periods are regulare like clockwork and always the same time frame. which makes me kinda leery about the whole idea of it... I know I need to get a diagnosis but I have no clue as to where or how to find a great doctor to diagnos me or to not diagnos me. If i do infact have this then i my main goal is to lose weight and get rid of the facial hair.
Anyways thats where I am at. I hope you gals can give me some good sound advice.
Welcome to SC! A good GYN might be able to diagnose you. My GP told me I have PCOS in 2002, but she had no intention of treating my symptoms. In 2005 I went to my GYN and asked about PCOS. He did a number of tests (almost all of which were normal) and told me I def. had PCOS. I have Inuslin Resistance which causes many of my PCOS symptoms. I am on Metformin (a diabetes drug used off label for many PCOS symptoms) and a lower carb diet.

Hi Simplebear -
I was just diagnosed last week w/mild insulin resistance and PCOS - and I have the same exact symptoms as you (except the hair on my head is also starting to shed). Periods regular like clockwork from day one -- but the extra hair (every-freakin'-where) and the inability to lose weight, etc. Where are you located? From what I've learned so far, it's important to get this thing in check not only because of the immediate cosmetic concerns - but for the long term health risks. If you believe that you have PCOS, then you must become your own advocate and seek treatment. If you were diagnosed as having PCOS 10 years ago... it's the kind of disorder you always have. Personally, I went to an endocrinologist. If you think you have this, you should get it treated. You have only one life to live, why not, I say...
I too have no cysts and pretty regular periods and have PCOS.
Welcome

There are so many forms and symptoms of PCOS, you don't have to have them all to be dx. I also, strongly suggest you get tested for Insulin Resistance. Once you know what's going on with your body, you can begin learning how to live with it. Coming to accept certain things have been the hardest part for me. Now knowing how my body works and treating it properly, my weight is finally beginning to come off, unfortunately learning how to live with the hair growth/hair loss is something that I find difficult from time to time. I don't know if there are other cysters on here who have experienced any success in ridding themselves of it forever, I'm just searching for a way myself. As to my knowledge other than laser, the hair growth won't go away, but I could be wrong.
I also agree that if you were dx with this 10 years ago, then you just need to find a good dr. my gyn is awesome. There is a thread on here that may help you find one.
