My Mood: Points: 884.47 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 884.47 | I just wanted to pop in and say a quick hello. I was excited to see a thread specifically for Albertan/Calgarian cysters. I live in Calgary, I was diagnosed with PCOS by my family doctor in November 2006. From what I've seen briefly with this thread there are some amazing women here who have been managing this. It's nice to "meet" you!

My family dr also dx me which was great. He's fantastic that way. We were hoping he was also going to be able to help us TTC but my DH has a s/c problem.
What's your story? Are you ttc?

My Mood: Points: 884.47 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 884.47 | Ha, that's me, little fishie. My story with the PCOS thing is basically health/wellness/weight issues. I'm married but we're not TTC yet - but I struggle with it because I think, should we start TTC now If it's going to take a really long time? But I'm not yet 25 and I'm kind of not ready right this instant. I hope that makes sense. I was reading some of this thread and the stuff you are going through in your TTC journey and I feel for you so much. It's a question I've struggled with, and also DH is 35 to my almost-25 so I worry about that too. But mostly I'd like to lose a few pounds and not be so hairy. I got a call today from the doctor's office about my blood work last week and it's about my cholesterol, so I was bummed out about that today. I won't find out 'till tomorrow exactly what that's all about but I'm hoping it's not a huge thing.
I'm sorry to hear your family dr. couldn't help further, I think it's nice to be able to have a history with the doctor so they know where you are coming from. And hey, thanks for the warm welcome. |

Mel- Did DH do his tests already??
Stacey- Welcome. I can understant not wanting to TTC right now, especially living in Calgary, its difficult to make that decision in such a high priced world. The age factor is difficult too. My DH is 29 and I am 23, He actually said that he was done TTC after 30, which really upset me, but there are other factors amongst us too. The whole Cholesteral blood thing, I got mine last year and my doctor scared me by telling me that if i didnt take care of it now I would die in the next 10 years. It scared me so much that I had to lose weight. One year and nearly 100lbs thinner, my cholesteral is still really high but it isnt record breaking. I wish you luck with that. Welcome to the boards Its nice to meet you too.

My Mood: Points: 30,976.78 Bank: 372,257.96 Total Points: 403,234.74 | Good Morning Ladies, Littlebullet: I think the call back is a good sign. Let me know what they say! Stacey: What did the doctor say yesterday about your b/w? Thanks by the way for your kind words, every little bit helps. I can absolutely understand you wanting to take care of yourself before TTC. I don't blame you. Not all women with PCOS struggle to conceive. Do you have regular cycles? Another cyster on a different board was trying to conceive since Sept and did naturally just this past month, she found out the day after her first RE appt. I wouldn't be worried about your biological clock just yet. Sheena: How are you sugar? DH has had his b/w, we got that done last week. Next Thursday he goes for the rectal u/s (ouch) and that should tell us if he has any swimmers and if he has an anatomy problem. Then on the 29th he has another s/c and we're paying the $375.00 to get the Y-chromosome micro deletion test done. The day after I get my U/s... so the ball is rolling. It's February that will be super painful because we'll just be sitting around waiting for results and for AF to show up so I can get b/w done and a HSG.

My Mood: Points: 1,774.16 Bank: 2,010.83 Total Points: 3,784.99 | I am starting prometrium today, 2 before bed for 10 days. I will call in on day1. They will then have me start superfact nasal spray on cd28. I will start on the lowest dose of gonal-f because they are concerned about me overstimming. I had 22 antral follicles on my left ovary and 12 on my right. It is still over a month away but at least there is a plan in place.
Melanie-It seems like a long process but once you get going, it goes fairly quick. I had started everything in september and was technically ready to go with treatment in november but we wanted to wait until after the holidays. I know how stressful everything can be. Hang in there!
Sheena- I said I will be finished TTC by 30 and well here I am, 30! I am still at it! I hope you get good news and the go ahead to TTC soon!
Welcome Petite!

My Mood: Points: 884.47 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 884.47 | Sheena, it's really encouraging to hear from someone else who has gone through the thing with the cholesterol. Yeah, I may not be ready for TTC so I'll use all of my positive karma hoping that things turn out well for women such as yourself and Melanie! Congratulations on the weight loss, 100 lbs is amazing. I'll think of you on days when I really want to reach for the cookies!
Melanie, thanks for the support and interest. I take Prometrium every 3 months to have a period and usually after I do, I'll have one or two cycles naturally in the following months. So the answer is... yes, sort of, not really. The doctor told me that my cholesterol is not really high but slightly elevated at 3.54 mmol/l (the LDL) and my other one is normal at 1.1 mmol/l (HDL). She wants me to try to eat less cheese maybe? But I'm thinking that primary cause of the high cholesterol is heredity and pcos more than anything. I'm a vegetarian and I hardly eat butter and drink skim milk so I don't get that much saturated fat! Still I hope that losing ten lbs will help. Enough rambling about me, though. How are you doing today?
That goes for you too, Sheena!

My Mood: Points: 30,976.78 Bank: 372,257.96 Total Points: 403,234.74 | Hi Steph and welcome!
I'm not an expert on the clinic in Calgary because I've only been once.
Have you had an HSG? What cycle day are you on? The first thing they'll do is send you for a bunch of tests, b/w on CD3 of your next cycle, a u/s and an HSG which has to be after AF but before suspected ovulation. Your DH will have his s/c done and maybe some b/w too.
I recommend you write down your questions in advance because they start throwing info at you so fast you forget them all. They'll probably ask you to go off met for a week so they can check your blood. I told them fat chance and to call my family doctor for my previous labs. If I go off the met for a week it could be 90 days before AF shows up again.
I just wanted to tell you on a personal note, don't go in expecting an immediate result or you wil be dissapointed. I wish someone had told us this. We waited 7 months for our first appointment, talked to them for 10 minutes and were told to come back in 9 weeks. I don't know that this will happen to you too I just wanted to warn you so you weren't an shocked as we were.

It is almost the hardest thing to indear while TTC...I dont like to say this, but its true. But not everyones experience is the same. Good luck!

My Mood: Points: 1,774.16 Bank: 2,010.83 Total Points: 3,784.99 | Steph-They will go over yours and your husbands medical history as well as what your cycles are like etc. They pushed IVF on me right away because we have been TTC for almost 10 years. We wanted to wait for all the test results before making any final decisions. They will send you for tests that have to be done during your cycle. They will tell you to call in on your day 1 to schedule an HSG and U/S. DH will have to do a semen analysis. Nothing will really be done and nothing will be prescribed at your first appointment. They schedule you in about 8 weeks after the initial appointment to discuss results and set up a plan for you. I agree to right down all your questions because once you get there, you will forget and it can be a bit overwhelming.
Do you know who your doctor is?
Nothing new to report, just waiting for AF.
