So, cheers to the season, and lets hope we all get answers soon enough!

I almost fell out of my chair. She seemed to think I had questions about AF? Hello?!? I had called for DH's s/c resuts, they are so unorganized. Anyways- I told her I was never going to get my HSG or b/w if AF didn't come. She said she'd ask the dr about that. They said DH's s/c was still zero. I mean- I expected it but was sad none the less. I asked about his u/s results. She didn't really know, she couldn't read the Dr's handwriting. She was trying to make out what it said and thinking out loud when I head her say "no physical abnormalities". So now I have it in my head that DH is completely sterile. It's not a missing vas defrence or anatomy problem like I'd been hoping. I basically told her I'd paid the $200 registration fee to get on the waiting list for IVF but we needed to know if he has sperm or not. If he doesn't, I'd rather try donor IUI instead of IVF. It's $900(ish) and less invasive. Plus if that's the case, DH and I need time to mourn this news and come to terms with it. I want to know in advance so that when we go for our appt on Mar 3 we know in advance what we want to do. I have time to make sure donor is ok with DH and we have time to really communicate about it. DH now wants to know if he still needs to take all those vitamins. haha- I told him yes until they actually confirm that he just doesn't produce sperm and never will. How are you?

I think once you see the RE you will feel better about things. How do you feel about Donor IUI? Personally i think that if our DH's want a child as badly as we do that they would do anything to make that happen. ((BIG SQUISHY HUGS)).

Hopefully the clinic will call back today- I was thinking about it, do you not think they'd do some kind of biopsy to confirm there are no sperm present? I think DH feels ok using donor sperm. He wants nothing more than to give me anything I ask for and to make me happy. He's a very very wonderful man. It really saddens me that we might not have a child that is biologically his (I know you feel the same way about your situation) but I also know he would prefer to use a donor than to adopt. He's said him self that at least biologically it's "half us". Which was sad but kind at the same time. At first he wanted to use his brothers sperm but my family doctor explained that due to legalities 'arranged donors' are not done in Alberta. That if we wanted my BIL to be the father we better get a small turkey baster. haha. How does your DH feel about it? I remember months ago you told me he was having a few reservations. I think I could be bias (obviously) but going to all the doctors appointments and having the baby and basically the whole experience would make DH feel more like the father, who cares where the sperm came from that adopting a child. Not that I'm against adoption at all, but donor would be our first choice. I really want to experience pregnancy.

| Much better Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Calgary Canada ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I agree, that donor isnt much different than natural other then the biologics. I am up to doing it. DH is the same way about it, and he is also very kind in wanting to make me happy, he just wants to hear those words that he can't father a child first before he goes about it. I agree with him, i just wanted him to be prepared for anything. I hate to say it, but adoption is my last resort, i know that there are many needy children out there, but the expence is unimaginable right now. I gave my son up for adoption when i was 17 and his adoptive parents spents tens of thousands on the adoption process. They are happy they did it, as nic is a perfect 6 yr old in every way, but they also used it as a last resort, as they werent ready for IVF incase it didnt work. I think that they should biops your DH before they finalize anything. Are you feeling better?

If so we'll definitely have to start going for coffee(s). I think I'm feeling a bit better, everyday I come to terms with things a little bit more. At this point I just keep thinking that we want to start a family, no matter what and like you Adoption is our last resort. I just wish we had a few more answers, all in good time I guess. Do you have any ideas of how I can get AF to start? I just keep thinking how they're going to tell us we have to wait even longer because I'm not cycling normally with out the clomid. Maybe I should also load up on cinnamon? How are you feeling? Do you have your next appointment booked or are they suppose to call you once they have your results in?

| tic toc goes the clock Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Canada ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Guess what? I was talking to a couple of women that also have DH with zero s/c on another thread and they've explained more to me than anything the clinic has said or I've learned in my own research. Apparently when you have a 0 s/c and there aren't any physical abnormalities such as a missing vas or blockages they do go ahead with a biopsy. Now the important thing they told me was this: They can only do one biopsy in 6 months. One type (mTESE) is much more thorough and they do several microbiopsies looking for sperm. The other is an actual biopsy that is not as thorough and they might miss the sperm producing tissues because they only take a few pieces of tissue. SOOO the downside is that the sperm that might be found in the mTSE is not very strong and would never survive being frozen and thawed. So basically what you have to do is go ahead with the IVF protocol. At the time when they want to fertilize, they do the mTSE then. If they find sperm they use it, if they don't you either cancel the IVF cycle or go with a donor. Obviously we'd never do the biopsy wait because they would not necessarily give us a clear answer and we don't want to have to wait 6 months if he does have sperm to go ahead with the IVF. Really- I'm not trying to get my hopes up here... I'm just so thrilled that someone out there told me what to expect next.

| Much better Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Calgary Canada ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Mel- I had to do a lot of my own research as well, mostly because my mother (shes a hypocondriac) was convinced that I had Anti-phospholipid syndrome, and after reading through all the info i got i finally convinced my RE to test for it, and it came out negative, lol, but atleast its another thing off the list. I do have an issue though, when ever i am pregnant my platlets and wb count are always really high, but after pointing it out no one seemed to think it was a problem, i was thinking it could be a blood thing between DH and I, but we are both the same blood type....i dont remember which, either O pos or O neg, the one where i dont need RH when pregnant, which is a good thing. I am feeling ok, i have had a few sad days, but i spent some time with my gf Meloney today and played with her baby, so that made me feel better. She had post Partum, so she needs all the company she can get. Its hard to not be able to help her, but she seems to be doing ok. Shes a single mom of 2, so i understand that things are difficult. Its still nice to spend time together. DH is off today too (so am i) so we have spent a little time together. He is at his M and D's right now, so i am just chilaxin by myself, watching the news. Did you hear about those kids that took sleeping pills? My goddaughter goes to West Dover Elm in ECS, and that is something like that 4th incident they have had (in general) this school year, which is also stressing my gf Meloney out, but it is the only feeder school to her district, and that caters to Calhomes kids, so she has no choice. To get AF to start, i have no idea, maybe BDing? Or Up your met for a few days? I don't remember what i used to do..I seem to remember having a lot of bathes and a lot of BDing because i had such bad cramps and those were the only things that would stop it from hurting...Good luck with that!

| Just Diagnosed Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Calgary, AB ![]() | Hi All, I am brand new to this forum and to PCOS - was just diagnosed mid January and am feeling so overwhelmed! Went to see my fam doctor who diagnosed me and have an appt with a specialist the first week of March but have no idea where to start. Obviously losing weight seems to be a key way to treat this disease but I feel like I have been dieting for the last 10 years!!! LOL Any advice? Should I wait to see the specialist? Have any of you ever tried to start with a cleanse or anything? Also not sure about doctors and such in Calgary. The specialist I'm seeing is Dr. Jennifer Kinnear - has anybody else been to see her? Am just looking for someone else who maybe feels or felt the same way I do - very overwhelmed and a little shocked at the seriousness of this disease. Havce also been having some other unrelated health issues this month that are just adding to my frustration with this whole thing. Help! |

The boards here can be very informative, and 9 times out of 10 some one has been through what you have, so you can always expect to find some sort of answer to some questions you may have. I am glad you found this place! Pcos can be scary, but once you learn to manage it, it become less of a hassle. Losing weight is a big key when trying to concieve (if you are), and can make your cycles more regular...Lol. Mine went from 50 days to 38 days, but since i have been on the pill it seems every 25th day so far. When i was diagnosed in Aug 06 I felt very overwhelmed, but at the same time I knew there was something wrong with me for 2 years prior to that. It was more of a relief then anything. Welcome to the club. What kind of symptoms did you have that made your doctor check for PCOS? I have never heard of Dr. Kinnear, but i hope that she can help you find answers. Good luck, and welcome!
