Here is the link to the old (closed) thread, if you read through the posts you might be able to PM them? That is if they don't see your post and reply... Looking for Calgarian or Albertan Cysters

I still have to make an appointment for May 1st, but they said it was too soon and to call back on April 15. The doctor I see is really nice and understanding.

Or is it just a bunch of female doctors that deal with female things? I just got a letter in the mail yesterday saying I'm overdue for my annual. I had no idea. Last year I had to bite the bullet and actually see my family dr for my pap because the female doctor at the clinic I went to for years had moved on. I was soooo uncomfortable. My family dr has been my dr since I was 8 and he's way too good looking to be doing things down there. I'd prefer to have my pap's done elsewhere, it doesn't even have to be a woman, it just can't be my family dr.

As an intro, dh and I live in Grande Prairie with our 2 kids and 2 puppies. Our daughter Kenya is almost 3 and 1/2 and our son Duncan is going to be 3 this month. Kenya was born by the unselfish kindness of a known sperm donor and Duncan is adopted from West Africa. We are in process to adopt again from Africa. I only read the first page of this thread but it sounds like in this area I may have something in common with a few of you.
I look forward to getting to know you ladies! Wow, I'm so glad I was checking out the new board look and foound this thread.
Jade- How could you not tell me about this thread? Sheesh! LOL

My Mood: Points: 26,665.53 Bank: 171,963.90 Total Points: 198,629.43 | Back from the Urologist Good Morning Ladies,
I hope everyone had a good weekend, I'm sorry I can't do personals at this very sec cause it's 12:45 and I just arrived to work so I'm running 5 hours behind.
Our doctor was wonderful, he was so kind and gentle, it was a real pleasure to talk to him (Dr Greene). He drew us diagrams and went through our entire file to tell us the results. In fact there were many copies of forms that were meant for us that the previous doctor didn't bother to remove from the file and give to us. He seemed very patient.
He reviewed DH's file and said we have about a 25% of finding sperm on a biopsy. This is much lower than the research I had done but I'm trying to remain positive. He also said should they find sperm there is only about a 30% chance the sperm would survive being frozen and thawed for ICSI.
I asked if they could do the procedure in conjunction with IVF. He said this option works well and would increase our chances to about 50% but that it is not available in Canada. We'd have to go to Cornell in NY and it would be $40,000. This is not an option we can afford. :-(
We decided to go ahead with the biopsy, it will be on May 16th and cost $2500.00. I just know that until we exhaust every effort to have a biological child I will not find peace with using a donor. The doctor said we didn't have to decide today but I wanted to because knowing our clinic if we went home to sleep on it, it could be 3 weeks before they'd call us back and then the May 16th date might have been full and it's the first available. DH is nervous but so brave. He was very quiet as we were leaving and going our separate ways to work but he called me soon after to say he was sorry if he seemed out of sorts, he was just shocked by what the doctor said and that he would do anything they asked him to for something this important to us.
As we speak, I sit in shock, I really need to cry but I need to hold it together because of work. Sometimes I wish I was sharing all these issues with a friend so that I could have a hug but that would put our privacy at stake.

I have been in your shoes except my dh opted not to have the biopsy done. I grieved our loss for several weeks, like not getting out of bed kind of grief. I remember the feeling like it was yesterday even though it was almost 5 years ago and it doesn't hurt nearly as much anymore. The fact that you are at work right now means that you are very very brave. If you ever want to chat please feel free to pm me.

I'm new to soulcysters and this is my first post. I've been diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago and have a been TTC for over a year. I'm glad to see that there are others ladies in my area who are going through similar challenges... family and friends try to understand but are very ignorant about PCOS and the stresses my husband and I go through. I'm hoping that I might join you all?

The drive in for me wasn't too bad since I believe it had really just started at that point. But now I just can't get over how much has accumulated. I haven't seen this much snow in Calgary since I moved here. I love looking at it, but definitely not driving in it. I was supposed to meet a friend for lunch at 11:30 today too. I hope it stops and just melts so I don't have to cancel. |
