Default Looking for a doctor in the twin cities: with a catch

long story here goes:

i don't have health insurance, and doubt i will be having it any time soon so i have to go to a free clinic. i had a doctor there that was going to put me on metforim, but i had to switch to the other doctor there because i can't get in during the day. well this new doc, who i wouldn't be surprised if SHE had pcos herself she was very hirsute, will NOT put me on met! she kept telling me there is no treatment for PCOS! that i should just suck up my extra hair, my weight (which is over 300 pounds now i've gained 100+ in a year!), and live with it! i am so frustrated. I was going to a great gyn when i lost my health insurance and he was telling me all about how great it was going to be for me on met. i don't know what to do, i am so upset. my hair on my body is getting thicker and its starting to grow on my chest and i want to stop it!!!! i am so tempted to self medicate because i can get metformin online. i am at such a loss, i want my body back. i have accepted the fact that i need to shave my face everyday, and now my arms, i dont want to have to shave my chest and back too. i wish i could find an open minded doc at a free clinic (that provides meds like the one I go to now, i'm also on a few others).

does anyone know of any doctors that are pcos sympathetic that practice at a free/sliding scale clinic? i am trying so hard to get state medical coverage and they are dragging their heels so i am not counting on being able to go to a real doctor soon. i'll take names of real doctors too. i apprecaite any help!

I don't know of a doc, but I did want to bump you up and also say to print out some of the convincing research articles and show them to the Dr. and if she still refuses you could always ask why she thinks she knows better than these 10, accredited doctors or whatever. Yes, kind of a smarta$$ thing to say, but if she's not going to give you the prescription anyways, at least you could find out why she thinks the way she does.

EDIT - also consider low-carbing for a while as it has shown to decrease some of PCOS symptoms - ie weight, hair, etc. Good luck!

I just got insurance, so I have to go a year until its no longer a pre-existing condition so I can see an ednocrinologist.

BUT I wanted to say I got my tentative DX at Planned Parenthood Burnsville- seeing the doc who is there once a week, not the nurses. I am on BCPs as a result, which are helping some of the symptoms. The doc (I can't remember her name) is the one who brought up the PCOS and she would refer me elsewhere if I where ready. I am pretty sure she also works at other sites too, so that may be a start.

My appointments aren't free, but they are based on income so they are affordable. BCPs are also at a reduced price. I don't know that they could get you on anything else, but it could be a start.
