Looking for an Endocrinologist near San Francisco, California
Can you (or someone you know) recommend one? I would prefer one on the Peninsula, but any recommendation is better than just randomly pulling a name off of my insurance's website. Thanks.
dr. eric buxton came highly reccomended to me by another care provider. i haven't seen him yet b/c he is considered out-of-network for my insurance plan and the out-of-pocket pay is high (around $500!).

I ended up randomly pullng a name off my insurances's website and am extremely pleased with my choice.
The place is called Fertility Physicians of Northern California (fpnc.com), they are located in both Palo Alto and San Jose, and there are many doctors in the practice. I explained to them that I wasn't looking to get pregnant, but that I just wanted a specialist to keep things under control. Appointments are easy to get and everyone in the office is wonderful.
Hi!
I've been thinking about going to FPNC for some time now, it seems that they are the only RE's in the bay area! I live south of San Jose and I've been searching, with little luck, for a doc who knows how to deal with PCOS. My current doc is nice, but I want someone who can help me reach my goals, I do want to get pregnant, and I really am concerned with diabetes and my current doc never even checked my blood glucose levels since she diagnosed me back in May. I feel sort of mismanaged! I am glad to hear FPNC has been good to you!
So they are willing to work with you even though your goal at this point is pregnancy? I'd love to have a RE as my overall doc, since they deal with the endocrine system as a specialty! Can you recommend any one of their doc over the others? I am planning on calling tomorrow to schedule an appointment!
Thanks for posing your updates!!!!!!!
Athenahera31, I explained my goals to the receptionist when I first called to make the appointment and it was not a problem. My first appointment was an hour long consultation and the doctor was very knowledgeable on the topic. She of course did explain some information about becoming pregnant (at some point I would like to get pregnant, just not now), but focused on PCOS. She had me make a second appointment for a physical, since my primary doctor isn’t familiar with PCOS and she wanted to check things out for herself. I now need to get more bloodwork and then start taking the pill. She wants me to make a follow-up appointment to review my bloodwork results and to see how my body is handling the pills. I feel very confident in how she is handling my case. The FPNC doctors cannot be your primary doctor since they only focus on fertility issues. She did say she could recommend a new primary. My only requirement at FPNC was a female doctor since I wanted a doctor to understand firsthand when I described things. I have now seen Dr. Mary Abusief for both appointments. If you go on their website, you can see pictures and descriptions of all the doctors in the practice. I do think she is on some sort of vacation for a week or so. I saw her in the Palo Alto office both times, so I’m not sure if she also works in the San Jose one. Please let me know if you have any further questions. I would be more than happy to help you out. Amy
