Default Looking for an Endocrinologist in NYC

Hi all - I'm new to Soul Cysters but not new to PCOS. I'm looking for a good endocrinologist in New York City. The one I've been going to I haven't been too happy with and I'd love someone who really understands PCOS and all we go through. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks!

OK. So I did some research on this board and came up with the following names that have been recommended in the NYC area:

Dr. Daniel Stein

Dr. Walter Futterweit

Dr. Redmond

Dr. Dennis Gage

I know there have been more listed, but these are names that I saw come up more than once or twice.

I made an appointment with Dr. Futterweit. Anyone have any recent experience with him or anyone else I've listed above? Any info would be great!

After years of not having the right doctor for my PCOS, I'm really anxious to go to someone who can help me.

Thanks!

I'm going to see Dr. Futterweit today. I'll let you know how it goes.

Anyone else seen him?

My appointment with Dr. F went well. Unfortunately I had to wait over 30 minutes past my scheduled time. That's a real pet peeve with me especially when I arrived 10 minutes early. But what can you do? He takes his time with his clients. So if you're going to book him, know that in advance and bring a book. I brought his book. LOL. Should have asked him to sign it for me.

The good news is that he was very through and spent over an hour with me. I can't remember the last doctor that did that. He mainly listened to me and examined me. I've got a number of blood tests and other tests to go get done. He didn't diagnose me or give me a plan of action, which I was a little disappointed with, but it's what I want. I'm looking for a doctor to help treat all of my issues with a number of different things not just prescriptions. So I think he's my man. Once all the tests come back to him, I'll go in for a follow-up/action plan. That's what the receptionist told me.

On the negative side, and not to be ageist, he is an older doctor. I'm guessing he's in his late 60s early 70s or older. That took me aback a bit, but you know, he knows his stuff and he's studied PCOS over the last 25 years. So I'm not going to let that stop me.

Everyone at the office couldn't have been lovelier and I felt very comfortable there. I didn't feel like just a number as I have at other offices.

I'd love to hear anyone elses thoughts if they've gone to Dr.F.

Thanks!

hi Goobear-

i'm a fellow pcos-er in Manhattan frustrated with my OB'GYN/RE. Now they want me to go see a fertility specialist. I'm on both Metformin and Clomid. It's beyond frustrating.

I've read the PCOS book by Dr. Futterweit, he's the biggest name in this field I think. I heard he doesn't take insurance- is that true?

Yes, it's true he doesn't take insurance. The initial visit cost $500 dollars and any follow ups will cost $300. Which is a lot of money to shell out, however they do give you a form to send in to your insurance company. I sent it to my insurance company and I'm waiting to see what if any money I get back from him.

It's a lot, but I figure I'll pay anything to fix what is going on with me.
