I am going to Dr. Shan Biscette(ob/gyn) in Kingwood, she is with Dr. Miles Mahan, I am actually going tmrro for my first appt with her, I have heard really great things about this group, as for endo's I have heard really great things about Dr. Veronica Jean-Pierre, being a nurse, I kinda get "the word on the street" from all my nurse friends. Personal experience can steer you away from Dr. Julie Bernell (ob/gyn) and Dr. Ulipi Choksi (endo). HTH!!
so i went to my appt on 3-27 and i walked out of the office in tears, good tears though, i finally have a doc who gave me a plan and told me that all hope was not lost, very positive and took her time with me, answered my questions. I ACTUALLY WALKED OUT WITH A PLAN!!!! it has always been "loose some weight and things will change" with other docs, but she has given me a plan that hopefully will have me pregnant by the end of the year-summer at the soonest, im so freakin' excited that i could scream!!! she is in kingwood, i live in humble. i hope this helps anybody in this area as she is excellent, she does infertility tx and all the ob/gyn stuff. she also highly recommends dr. veronica jean-pierre here in humble too.

Does anyone know of a good doctor in Houston that will treat patients that are not trying to conceive?
It seems that all of the reproductive endocrinologists are only trying to make money off of women who are TTC - what about the rest of us who need treatment?

It's completely unfair and unethical.
I would recomend an regular endocrinologist - instead of a reproductive one - since you aren't TTC.

Dr. Allon.. who is mentioned in this thread... treats you if you're not TTC. and he's very respectful and nice
Not only am I NOT trying to conceive.. but never will. Hubby's sterile. So it's not like he's treating me now with hopes of one day conceiving.
I dunno. I like his office.
I hate driving to i-10 and beltway though.
Thanks! Unfortunately I'm only entitled to one annual exam a year so I'll have to wait until next year, but at least I'll have something to look forward to!
The gyn I saw this year - Dr. Sandra Haldeman - is the worst!!!!
Has anyone here seen Dr.Allon that didn't have insurance. Just trying to get an idea on how much you end up spending with bloodwork and visits. Thanks.

Try Dr. Steven F. Hotze. He is the mentor to my doctor and he practices out of Houston. The doctor I'm seeing now follows Dr. Hotze's policies and he is the first doctor I've ever been to that has helped me with everything and listens to and believes everything I say.

Just had an emergency procedure done by Dr allon tuesday and I will repeat that he is a great doctor...very caring.
But, once again.....some members of his staff are just aweful. I know they are very busy...but what I just went through with his insurance coordinator was just horrible. Basically it all boiled down to the fact that she was not doing her job and it ended up with me alost going to the ER until I was finally able to get through to him and he told me to meet him at the hospital that day. Surgery was fine, no pain the day after...but that one staffer made the whole ordeal just terrible. I plan to speak to him about it at my follow-up appt.
An endo NOT to see - Dr. Michelle Zanewski. She nearly killed me. Put me on glucophage/met and then told me to drink a glass of wine every day. My back started hurting really bad and I didn't figure out what it was until I happened to look up the side effects of my meds. Glucophage + alcohol = KIDNEY FAILURE. My back was hurting, very badly, on both sides - my kidneys. Also, she put me on human growth hormone when it was still new and I had to fill out all this paperwork about it every week because I think I was part of a study and she wasn't disclosing that to me. I asked my regular doctor if it could make bad cells grow too and my doctor said that it was definitely possible and that there wasn't a lot known about that drug yet and that I should quit taking it. Dr. Zanewski "punished" me by refusing to refill my thyroid and IR meds until I went back on HGH. I quit seeing her. Plus, her PA's and nurse practitioners are REALLY rude.
Dr. Allon is great. I'm just seeing him for PCOS, not ttc. His staff is disorganized. Also in the Woodlands - I have heard a lot of good things about Dr. Gill, especially for ttc.
Does anyone have any good comments about Dr McWilliams? He is now my 2nd RE my 1st was Dr Sheila Nader, she knew her stuff but not really personable plus all she kept talking about was my weight.

I go to Dr McWilliams - I really like him. He hasn't said much about my weight - he's concerned about my insulin levels though, which is good - just not on clomid as quickly as I want.
He is very good about going on your own pace though.

I went to Dr Allon over 4 years ago after firing my previous RE. I love him absolutely love him. His staff was wonderful as well. I had two failed IUIs with the previous dr. I got pregnant 2 cycles later with Dr Allon. The first cycle was preparing with fish oils, lowering testosterone, etc. The first cycle on fertility drugs I was pg with twins. Unfortunately we lost one at 10 weeks but now have a perfect 4 year old daughter. We are actually talking of ttc #2 and will travel to Houston. Unfortunately we have since moved to Louisiana and are 6 hours away.
Edited to add: I forgot to mention that when I was 15 weeks and released to my OB we moved home to Louisiana. Dr. Allon continued to call and check on my pregnancy until DD was born. We took a trip to Houston to visit Dr Allon after dd was born.
He was very, very caring.

Reason: added additional info
I have been seeing Dr. Allon for two months now. Everything is going great. Last month he put me on Cinnamed, Fish Oil and thyroid meds. My previous thyroid meds made my heart race and he found one that wouldn't. The great news is that he is treating me successfully WITHOUT MET!!! I've been on the Cinnamed and Fish Oil for a month and a half now and have lost 15 pounds, my triglycerides are down 200 and something points, my cholesterol's down 100 and something points, my androgens are down - it's awesome. He said that because I did so well he thinks he can treat me without heavy drugs. I am very grateful for that because Met and I are mortal enemies. I did the Dr. Altman (nutritionist there) thing for a month - the modified elimination diet to see if I have food allergies, and a shake. The shake tastes good after you get used to it, but I just can't afford to keep seeing her and when I told Dr. Allon he was completely understanding about it. She doesn't take insurance and with all the stuff she wants you to do and buy - I spent at least $500 on her last month. But, if he asks you to do that modified elimination diet - it's totally worth it. It sucks at first, but in the end, you figure out what food you actually like and what you just eat out of habit (bread is way overrated), which isn't the purpose (supposed to find out what you're allergic to or what makes you sick) and also retrained me to cook. I'm a convenience always person and we eat out almost every meal, so I'm always apprehensive of cooking, but when I had to do it I remembered how easy it is and the stuff I made turned out better than restaurant every time.
Point is - Dr. Allon can treat you a variety of ways and doesn't put all his PCOSers on one shelf, on one treatment. He treats us as unique individuals.
I just came back from my appt with Dr. McWilliams.....I LOVE him!!!! Where was he about a year ago. I recommend him for everyone in Houston!
