does anyone know of an endo in the houston area that treats teens? my little sister is 14 and is showing all the signs of the pcos/thyroid/insulin resistance that i have, only much earlier and more pronounced. my old endo didn't treat anyone under 18 and i really don't want her to have to continue to be burdened with these disorders any longer than she has to.
so if anyone knows if their dr treats teens or knows of one that does, i'd really appreciate the referral. thanks.

She may need to see an 'endo' and not an 'RE'. Check Dr McWilliams though, I'm not sure that he'd have any problems treating a teen, or Dr Allon.

A girl at my job raves about a Dr.DelCastillo out of the med center. She LOVES him!!! And he has made a huge difference in her life. I, on the other hand, see Dr.Allon and his trusty sidekicks. So far...so good. I'm not too sure what to expect. I'm hoping for the obvious, weight loss and hair gain (in the right places), but also, I hope to feel like I'm 27 (which I am!!!).
I am new to the Houston (Humble) area and was just diagnosed with PCOS this past Thursday with Dr. Gullett. At this point in time, my husband and I are not pleased with him. I believe I have had PCOS for at least 7 years and no one even mentioned, let alone diagnosed it until now. I am happy I have a diagnosis but I am not please or excited about the treatment. Instead of getting started on a weightloss, nutrition, exercise and medication plan he wants me to has Gastric Bypass surgery immediately. I have to attend a seminar through Dr. Garth Davis and then have a consult with him and then go back to see Dr. Gullett and discuss my options. I will go to the seminar and meet with Dr. Davis but I do not want to have the surgery until we exhausted other treatments. Yes, I know I am not a doctor and all of that. But this guy has seen me twice, once just to go over test results. Jumping straight into surgery is not how I want to start my treatment. I do not have diabetes yet. I believe I am not infertile, or I wasn't and may be now as I have 2 beautiful, perfect daughters. Since Thursday, my husband and I completely went through all our food and replaced it with healthier foods and we began walking a minimum of 2 miles plus other exercise and also joined a gym. We are completely committed to getting through this. Dr. Gullett refuses to prescribe any medication until after I consult with Dr. Davis. Is this normal? Should I get a second opinion? Any other recommendations for the Humble area? Thanks!
Tori - I'm don't know you whole story but I would be leary of any Dr that recommended surgery after only 2 visits. I am a big girl (about 250) and not one Dr has ever mentioned surgery. I would think it would be a last resort option. Unfortunately I live in the Pearland area and go to Dr's in the med center so I don't know of any near your area. I was dx last year by my gyno and immediately sent me to my 1st RE because we are ttc. So I'm not sure what direction you would take without TTC. But Good luck and know that all of us cysters are here if you need to vent and the board is full of all kinds of information.

LOL - I'm glad you like him - I really enjoy going to his office as well.
Did you happen to sit by the fish tank? they are so relaxing and silly at the same time.
Cboytitan - I'm so sorry I never replied to you. Totally didn't see that you replied back then. Yes I did sit by the fish tank and so far I love his staff, very friendly. Our plan was to take 1500mg of met for a month plus take BCP for 2 months to bring my testasterone(sp) level down and then check my levels. If everything is normal I get to start clomid if not then we wait a little longer. I went in this morning for my b/w since its been 2 months and should have the results on Thrusday. Keeping our fingers crossed that we get to move to clomid.

I do not have PCOS after all. I do, however, have Hashimotos (autoimmune hypothyroidism). I travel to Lubbock to see a wonderful doctor who treats my thyroid, low DHEA, low iron and B vitamins. I need a regular OB/GYN in the Houston area who will do my yearly well woman exams and when I am ready to TTC. I saw Dr. Randall Dunn as an RE, but he released me because I'm not TTC. I am on Armour thyroid, and my TSH is surpressed (less than 1.0). I need an ob/gyn who will be tolerant to this and not want to change my medications!

i am thinking of making an apointment with dr allon as well. i just want to have a normal AF. i want my body back, then once i get a normal period i would like to try to conceive.
my obgyn right now is dr noel boyd from her healthcare-----do not see her! she is rude and doesnt know a thing.....anyone else been to her?
oh and i live in the new caney area which would be closer, dr allon's the woodlands office or the one off katy freeway?
the woodlands office has sparse appts, no lab and your chart is not kept there. i cant think of a positive of the office there except if you have a u/s or discuss a plan of action it is more convenient, but the katy office is the main hub and i go there, he seems like he has a huge patient following and sometimes you can feel like just another name on the appt. book.
