Default Looking for a good Dr in Maine....Please help.

Hi! I'm new here, and I haven't been diagnosed yet, but reading through all the symptoms and personal stories, i find that I can relate to almost all.
I have always been hairier than most.....I started shaving my legs at age 7. I started my period at age 14, at age 16 I started having late periods, nothing drastic at first...every other month or so I'd skip. But I was involved in a lot of things so i chalked it up to stress.I didn't consider my self overweight, but I have always been larger....I'm tall : 5'9" and my average weight was around 150 all through school. When I became sexually active at age 19, that's when things started becoming abnormal......I went 3 months without a period, and again I chalked it up to stress, as I had moved and was having boy trouble....I took a p.test every month even I really did not think I was pregnant. They were all negative.
I then met my first husband and after we moved in together I stopped having periods. I went 6 months without one......I had blood work done by my childhood dr, a pap smear, and an ultrasound. The blood work showed that I had elevated testosterone levels, which I kind of figured because of the HAIR, hairy legs, arms, and even a mustache. But again nothing was found, most likely because the dr didn't know what to test for.
It ended up being 8 months of no periods, with a different dr ginving me A-men, to stimulate a period, it worked for that month and after that irregularity resumed.
I just assumed I was stressed out, by this time I was married, and we were trying to conceive without success.I gained 20 pounds despite the fact that I wasn't eating normally, I was never hungry and would go a couple days without eating anything. I was in a bad relationship and completely stressed out all the time....but I didn't go back to the dr, i couldn't afford to, and I didn't miss my periods.
My marriage ended in divorce and a month later my periods resumed, I had normal periods for about 5 months...i met a new man, and was quite happy, we decided to try to conceive, as crazy as that sounds, and a month and a half later we were pregnant! My pregnancy went well, toward the end I gained a bunch of weight, but was healthy, no problems. Birth went fine, and I had a beautiful baby girl weighing in at 10 lbs 2 oz. and 22 inches long! She was checked for diabetes because of her size and was found negative. I lost all but 5 pounds of my baby weight.....my periods never resumed normally, it was 6 months after the birth of my daughter, 3 months after stopping nursing that I finally had one, then it was three months before the next one. Then 6 months till the third.....so it's been 4 years since I had my daughter and my cycles have been averaging about 72 days...I haven't had a period since April. I have gained 40 pounds total since high school...so I'm now at 190/195, 20 pounds since giving birth.
I still have skin breakouts.....I still have excess body hair, I am tired a lot, very irritable, moody, emotional, loss of libido, trouble sleeping ( i don't remember the last time i went a full night without waking up), loss of appetite, can't lose weight despite not eating much. I do crave sweets, but I don't eat very many carbs now, and it seems to have helped somewhat with my mood swings. And my husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 8 months now, but it's hard to figure out when I'm ovulating if I have no cycle, if I'm ovulating at all.
So I have not been diagnosed, but everything seems to fit, and I have no idea where to find a Dr who deals with this particular "disease". I don't know where to start. I don't know where to look. Any help would be a blessing. Thanks in advance, and I'm so happy to have found this site. Looking forward to talking with you ladies!

Jennie,

There is a sticky "handy ... for locating board certified doctors" or something to that effect here on teh boards and theres a section dedicated to referring doctors perhaps you may want to search through there otherwise if you can still not find what you are looking for you can do an endorconologist in maine search through google and should be able to come up with some. Make sure to also check the docs rep. Also you may want to try the pen pal section to see if tehre are any maine cysters in that section adn then e-mail them specifically.

Hope to have he;p at least a tad

to SoulCysters!

I did an advanced search under the PCOS friendly doctors and came up with this post by Kat:

http://www.soulcysters.net/showpost.php?p=28404&postcount=1

Click the link. Perhaps the doctor she listed will be able to help you.

Best wishes finding a doctor!
