Unhappy Looking for ob/gyn or endo in NYC area

I currently have a pretty decent ob/gyn, but I don't think she's up to date with PCOS treatments.

I'm desperate to talk to a specialist in PCOS in the New York city area.

Please help.

I went to see Dr Marc V. Sauer and Dr Rogerio Lobo at 1790 Broadway. they also have an office at Columbia Hospital. They are head of infertility and reproductive medicine there. They are not just interested in getting you pg, but they seem to know alot. You can do a search on either of their names and you will find tons on info on them. One of the numbers for them is 212-305-4665. Let me know if you give them a call and if you like them. Good luck

Post Thank you for your reply

My DH and I are still considering when is the best time to TTC (probably soon). I did a search for Dr. Lobo and did find many articles he wrote. He seems very well informed about PCOS. I was thinking of calling him to make an appointment when I came across the following webpage: http://www.onna.org/information/USA/New_York/more2.html
The patient said "After one visit to Cornell I see how badly treated I was at Columbia. Columbia is a factory and there is little time for a plan or any dialogue.
I think the bungled my care. Each time I was there I saw another doctor. Rarely did I see Lobo, the head of this clinic. When I did, he barely seemed to remember me and, although I'm 43 seemed in no particular rush and seemed to overly confident that all would go well. It was not, I think, based in reality and did not help me make wise decisions. Cornell in comparison is a first rate place, although clearly much more crowded, it is so worth it. I am so sorry I did not start there. Columbia has no leadership and no coordination. No one has any time to talk to a patient -- even nurses and office support seem annoyed if you ask a question."

Was your experience with Dr. Lobo and his staff this bad? Did you feel all your questions were answered? Did they do a thorough examination? Did he seem to care or did he seem distant? Do you think the service you went to see him for is being treated well currently, good result? Sorry for all the questions, I really like to do a lot of research before I make any decisions. I think not only should a good PCOS doctor be well informed and up to date with PCOS treatments but he/she should be caring and approachable as well.

Good luck with your journey.

I had actually seen DR Sauer when i got there, and I guess thinking back, I was just so happy to find a group of doctors who didn't think I was some raving lunatic. I had been having problems and pain at that point for about 13 years. The doctor and the nurse just seemed to know so much about PCOS, and the nurse then sat in a room with me and DH and explained everything to us. I had already done so much research on this, but Dh still had some questions, and they answered them no problem. I did find that when I called back the person i spoke to about Metformin was very quick to say just do they atkins diet. I was not unhappy with the doctors because I felt they knew what they were talking about, I only stopped going to them because I live on Long Island and their hours seemed to get shortened and I didn;t want to have to take off of work each time I had an appointment. I wish you lived out here because I did find a doctor that I am so happy with, it is unbelievable, and she basically has no bad hour, I think she even given out her home number! If you decide to go with them, let me know what you think. Now I am very curious.

Good Luck--

It's so good to hear about your experience. And I 'm so happy that you found a perfect doctor near you.

I will give Dr. Lobo or Dr. Sauer a try. However, I'm on BCP right now and I don't want my blood test results to be affected by it. I plan to get off the pills mid October when my last packet finishes. Then I want to give it 2 months for my body to get adjusted. And then I want to go see Dr. Lobo and get all my blood work done. So it will be awhile when I write in this post again about my experience with the doctors and their staff.

Thank you so much for all your help. I wish you all the best.
