Isnt that sad?? I guess I should qualify that with the possibility of the docs I have seen knowing more but could care less. There that's better.

My Mood: Points: 3,160.70 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,160.70 | Hey ladies. I live in Joplin, Missouri, but I am from St. Louis. We have poor medical care here and I have some major health problems, so I go through St. Louis University for all my medical needs. I am going to a specialist on May 19th through SLU...his name is Michael Thomure. He is a GYN, but he specializes in Endo and PCOS. He was highly recommended by my Hematologist at SLU. They say he is nice, personable, and a wealth of knowledge. We shall see. I will report back after my appt.

My Mood: Points: 3,160.70 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,160.70 | No prob. I know how hard it is to find someone to deal with this...that's why I have to travel 300 miles to see a doctor. I have blood issues that really conflict with PCOS, so it's been a nightmare. Be assured, I will divulge all info as soon as I see the Dr. Thomure & let you gals know if he is as good as I hear. You can look him up on the SLU Hospital website, though it just says he is a gyno that specializes in endo/PCOS. The SLU hematology team was going to send me to a plain old endo, but they thought this guy would be better. Can't wait to let you guys know how it went. Pins & needles!!! =)

My Mood: Points: 1,433.51 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,433.51 | I recommend Dr. Teresa L. Knight...she operates out of St. John's in St. Louis and also Missouri Baptist in St. Louis (I think she's still at MoBap). She has a website you can check out, and she will even respond to emails! Literally, the woman looked at me and diagnosed me on the spot (and ordered all of the necessary tests to confirm, of course!). She is an awesome lady!
Her website is here: http://www.whs-stl.com/index.html
And you can click on "Our Providers" to learn more about her. Seems like she is accepting new patients.

My RE is Dr. Barry Witten at St. John's Mercy in Creve Coeur. I can't say enough good about him and his whole staff.
I also live in O'Fallon, MO.

My Mood: Points: 3,160.70 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,160.70 | I met with Dr. Thomure today. He was GREAT. He was all read up on my chart before I got there and he and his staff acted like I was a guest they had been expecting. He has lots of knowledge and took time to sit with me in his office and answer all my questions. He asked plenty of questions and really listened. He even drew pictures for me...lol. He's very easy-going and laid back. He was very optimistic about us TTC next year (waiting b/c I am not healthy enough at the moment). Sadly, I can't be put on some of the treatments he wanted quite yet b/c we are waiting for more hematology studies to come back, but we will get there. After I left, he had a half-hour convo with my hematologist and then called me right away to tell me what they decided. I'll give him a 9 out of 10 on the score. He would get a 10, but he made me go thru a pelvic exam so I wasn't too thrilled...lol.

My Mood: Points: 24,975.05 Bank: 5,251,933.99 Total Points: 5,276,909.04 | I see Dr. Janet Matuszek as my gyn. Her and the NP's there are knowlegable in PCOS. They even gave me my last Rx for Met since I don't really have the time to take to go to my endo. She's in St. Peters and also out of St. Lukes in Chesterfield. My endo is Dr. Jerome Thurman. He's wonderful. I was on the 'thin' side the first time I saw him and he didn't just look at me and say I didn't have it b/c of the way I looked. He listed to my history and did the blood work. I got the Rx for Met before even leaving the office because he belived with the history I gave him the blood work would just agree with everything for me to start. Hope this helps and you find a good doc! Oh! I wanted to add that my insurance doesn't cover Reproductive Endos. However, Dr. Thurman got me in on appts. for check up on the pcos and we talked about the fertility part. He upped my Met and we discussed Clomid if I would need. Thankfully all I needed was the increase dose of Met to conceive. But he was going to work with me so we didn't have to put it on my insurance as fertility.

I knew nothing about PCOS when I went in with the same complaints that I had been telling my other doctors for years. She was very quick to order up the blood tests and then diagnosed PCOS. What a relief ! Hopefully by now you have a doc that is doing right by you! |

If I don't get a good vibe from her on beginning a diagnosis, then I am definitely going to look one of the doctors up that was mentioned in this thread. Much appreciated!
