Default Looking for a South Florida doctor

Hi there, I'm new to this board and to PCOS. In fact, I haven't even been tested yet. The last exam I had was at one of my local Planned Parenthoods, and the NP who did the exam just didn't seem to care.. So, now that my health insurance kicks in this week, I'd like to go to a doctor who won't laugh at me and tell me not to worry about it when I mention to her that I have several symptoms of PCOS. I live in West Palm Beach, but will drive anywhere between Martin County down to Broward County for a good doctor (who accepts United Healthcare ). Thanks in advance for any help!

Carrie

edit: I forgot to mention that I really don't feel comfortable seeing a male doctor, unless it's my only option.

Hi! Sorry I can't help, but I too live in WPB (Palm Springs actually). I was living in Finland and got wonderful treatments there. My insurance at work just kicked in and I need to find a Dr on my plan (BC&BS). RE's are not covered so I need to find a PCOS friendly Gyn (hopefully one that can improvise as an RE).
Hope somebody can help!

Default Broward County

Hi--when I was first diagnosed I saw a doctor who is an endocrinologist--she seemed pretty cool---I only saw her once because I am in this wierd limbo in life between Wisconsin and Fort Lauderdale so I should make an appointment again but no clue when I will be back there. Anyway her name is Dr. Thompson (I think Novelette is her first name) She is part of Holy Cross Medical Group and they are located right on federal highway the number is 954-938-9966. Maybe they can point you in the right direction towards someone close to you.....Hope this helps

Edited to say: Not sure on the health care they except I have BCBS of Florida

Turtle - Thanks a bunch! I'll keep her in mind in case my other recommendation doesn't work out. Ft Lauderdale's not that far.

Bee - I actually got a recommended to a lady in Boca Raton, Dr Kimberly Stein. The number is 561-750-7300. I'm calling tomorrow to make an appointment and will let you know how it goes.

Thnx! I actually came across Dr. Stein in my research and just found she's on my insurance. Only problem is Boca is 25 miles away! Grrrr!

Let me know how it goes!

See part of my problem is that I've been on Metformin for 1 1/2 years. I ovulate and get AF, but no preg due to male factor.

I either need to find a way to be able to do low-cost IUI's or get DH's problem fixed (Urologist). And get an Rx for more Met, but I still have a 2 month supply left so the Met isn't THAT important.

Keep in touch!
