Default Losing My Hair/ Losing My Mind

Hi I am new to this board. I just found out I have PCOS. I thought I was going crazy for years so it is nice to know that I am not however I am freaked out about my hair. How do I stop it from thinning? I go to the doctor Thursday to see how thick my uterus is and to get on Glucophage and birth control pills. Is there anything I should ask the doctor for to help my hair from coming out. I have long hair and have had it all my life. I have lost about half its thickness and had no idea what was happening til now. I have so many other ?'s but this is the one pressing me now. I know it is crazy after seeing how many people are on your board but I feel so alone. Seems like I have been on the brink of tears since I found out 2 days ago. Thanks! Joyce

Dear Joyce,

First of all ((hugs)).You are definately not alone.I also have had long hair most of my life,it was down to my waist and so thick, and then i lost so much, over half.It has grown back a little now,but isnt any where the way it should be.
Welcome to Soul Cysters!! So many of us are going through the same feelings you have.
Hair loss is caused by a hormonal imblance, which affects the scalp and hair folicle. When you start working on your PCOS,your symptoms of hair loss should improve.I just started my journey just like you,and I have been reading allot about the health of hair, and how to reverse hair loss.

Here are a few ideas

Saw Palmetto either used in a shampoo or taken in a pill form, lowers the male hormones, and helps hair regrowth in many women.
Nioxin www.nioxin.com , is a proffessional salon shampoo that has been proven
to help halt thinning hair, they have special formulas for women and, they dont
have any harmful drugs like rogaine.

Essential Fatty Acids,Omega 6 from fish,or flax seeds is essential for proper hair growth.

In eastern Medicine, hair loss is considered a sign of weak bone health, increase your
consumption of calcium rich foods.

take a good multi mineral/vitamin supplement, add B vitamins,Biotin and Zinc, get quality protein, and take digestive enzymes with meals to absorb nutrients.

MSM,is a sulfer compound clinically proven to stimulate hair groth, the herb SHEIN MEIN has been reported to help as well.

I am doing some research, and I will let you know more as I find out!

Avoid Sodium laurel sulfate in shampoo, they increase the rate of thinning,my hair grows allot better and falls out much less when I use all natural products.

here are a few brands

Aubrey Organics
Aveda
Jason Organics

these all can be found in health food stores,I am also going to be trying one saw palmetto natural shampoo, and other PCOS treatments.I will let you know if anything
is helping.

God bless you and good luck on your healing journey!

Smile Hair loss

Hello,

I'm new to this site and am very thankful to be able to find a wealth of information and be in touch with others who can understand how one feels to live with the symptoms of PCOS.

My hair started falling out at the age of 13, when appearance to a young girl means the world. However, over the past 20 years I have tried all sorts of remedies, some good others terrible! Once when feeling very low, I joined a hair clinic which promised a 'miracle' cure at a fee of £3000, feeling vulnerable, I parted with my money, and the only thing I came away with was a badly burned scalp from all the chemicals they poured onto my scalp!! Please do not be fooled into thinking that these miracle cures work, they do not. I then researched hair loss and began to nourish my hair with coconut and avocado oil containing the essential oil of rosemary and lavender. Also taking Vitamin B complex, Zinc, Vit E, Silica. Eventually my hair loss decreased and has stabilised over the years. The hair is nothing like its original state, lovely and thick, but I am able to wear it up.

I am really grateful for advice that is posted here as it seems that all us sisters are in the same boat, its great that we are able to share stories and advice.

Warm Regards

Prochida

I had a problem last year with my hair coming out. It was awful. Then it stopped. I take flax seed oil capsules once a day and calcium magnesium. I also take a multivitim.

I stopped using regular hair products and only use salon ones.

After 6 months of this, my hair started to really come back. It still is not as thick as it was back in hairschool but it never was that thick to begin with. It is really fine. Usually though, I have lots of it.

Right now, I have been able to grow it out and it looks nice, better than it has in years. Best of all, it ain't falling out so much.

I also take met & avandia which helps.
