Question Losing Weight In College

My doctors wanted me to lose 10 pounds by the end of this school year, I gained 10 last semester, so I now need to lose 20 by the end of this semester. Anyone in college have any ideas how to do this with college food? Thats the hardest part for me is that I have to have the meal plans so I eat the college food but theres so little there that helps you lose weight and so much that makes you gain it. I mean honestly I thought I ate well last semester but I gained 10 pounds...I don't know what to do...

Smile I might be able to Help

I too am in college. I am a sophmore going into my second semester. My freshman year is when I found out that I had PCOS. The diagnosis also came with the death of my grandmother which was my second one to die that year. I wasn't at my healthiest. My first semester I gained about 15 I would say. But my second semester I decided that I was sick of being the fat girl at 245lbs. so (many people might not agree with me about this) I looked to Dr. Phil. I read his book and it helped greatly I am now down 45lbs. Right now I still have another 45lbs or so to lose but I am at a stand still plateau right now. So maybe if we talk back and fourth we will help eachother. I hope this helps you. But remember you have to be ready to lose weight before you start.
Hope to talk to you soon.

Elizabeth

i also lost weight after reading dr phils book.
i've been 'stuck' at a phase for a while now though and need to get back into the swing of trying to lose weight again.

i dont know what kind of food they serve at the college but if it's not healthy then i would try to get off thier program or buy as much of your own food as possibler, your health is worth it if you can save money elsewhere and use it towards a healthier diet.

I know it's really hard to eat right if you're on campus. Here it's possible to get nutrition information online for all the food served on campus....you might be able to ask around and find that information. We also have a nutritionist in the health center who consults with students. I've found that most things on campus aren't much better than fast food, but here we have a huge variety of on-campus dining halls. Depending on what sort of cafeteria your school has, you might be able to request that they make your sandwiches with less oil and butter, for instance. But yeah, I've definitely found that I'm eating much better now that I'm off campus, buying my own groceries and cooking my own food. This is my fourth year of college (starting grad school in the fall, woohoo!) and the first year that I actually feel like I'm eating healthy food. Definitely contact me if you need advice...I've been in college for a while

(and no ramen! that stuff is loaded with sodium!)

I am in college and high school but not away at college, so I'm not any help. But I did want to wish you girls the best of luck with losing weight.

I live on campus and while I lost about 25 pounds between graduation from high school and starting college last fall, I have gained about 10 of that back. So I haven't hit the "Freshman 15" yet...but I was well on my way before I stopped myself, lol. I find myself going out most often to eat, none of us really go to our cafeteria and we really should. My school has junk food type choices, but they also offer salads & sandwiches everyday that aren't nearly as bad for you.

One thing I try to do is NOT eat right before going to bed, sometimes that is hard when you are up at like 2 in the morning cramming for a test...eating usually keeps you awake! I don't eat past 8:00, usually. Another thing I am trying to do is stop going to McDonald's between classes or out to eat during the week with friends, I figure a few chips or a bag of popcorn couldn't come close to chicken nuggets, fries, & coke from Micky D's!! My school has a gym, but when do you normally find the time or motivation to do that?? My roommate and I raided our Mom's videos and found several Richard Simmon's videos, a Paula Abdul exercise video from sometime back in the 80's...and some nights we'll pop one of those in and do it...yeah, it might seem silly but between doing that and laughing at ourselves, we're bound to burn some calories, LOL!!!

It's more will power than it is anything and if you stick with it long enough, it'll become just as much of a habit as all the bad stuff we did to get to where we are!

Good luck!!

I have been at uni for 6 months and at first I put on wieght quickly but since my money ran out at xmas I ahve lost 10 pounds. I eat small meals mainly pasta or potatoe, I skip breakfast to save time and eat dinner very late so I don't snack as much in the evening. Supriosingly I am eating a lot more chocolate and sweets now but still lose weight. I think I cconsider a chocolate bar a meal so if I don't eat again its not too bad. I also live with an anorexic so i kinda feel guilty when I pig out.
