Hi, I'm new here! Just wanted to see what you all thought about this.
I have no appetite since I started t he Metformin. I've lost 2lbs since Friday and its not b/c I'm trying, its b/c I have no desire to eat and when I do eat...TMI...well you know what happens. I'm only having 1 meal a day right now and a whole bunch of water and that 1 meal I have to make myself eat. I guess its good that I don't have the normal sugar cravings anymore but this one meal a day can't be good for me or my metabolism. What should I do?
I think that's normal when starting met. I went through several phases of being not hungry, to only wanting junk, to eating everything, to just being plain sick. I wouldn't be too concerned about it right now, but if it continues then talk to your doctor. But your appetite should come back once your body adjusts to the meds. Just eat what you can right now, and keep yourself hydrated.
Good luck!

This is my fouth month on Met . . . .same here. It was really bad at first. I totally had to force myself to eat. Now, it comes and goes. I was at all "all you can eat" today . . . .and in mid-bite of a shrimp I thought, I can't swallow. I did. But I was done for the whole meal. NEVER had that happened before in my whole life.
In some ways, it is disappointing . . . there are lots of foods I would have enjoyed trying today. But, in other ways, it is good. I eat smaller meals now. Consume less calories at one sitting. (But, I do eat more often too.)
Also, I make myself eat even if I don't feel hungry . . . beause I hate the jittery feeling I will get if I don't eat.

WOW, your posts sound exactly what I have been experiencing! I "think" something sounds good, get mid way into the meal... and I'm DONE with it! I was never like this before, so it's weird. I could care less about food.
I am also concerned about my metabolism, as I know you have to eat to burn. Mmmmm, I'm trying to eat, but it's the last thing I want to do.
Must be the Met.! And to think I'm supposed to increase from 1,000 to 1,5000!! Geeze, I'll be like anorexic on the stuff!! Well, I am glad I'm losing a good amount of weight! YEE HAA!!
I've been on Met since March, and I was the same way when I first started it. And even now, I go through "phases" where Food just does not sound appetising. I'm like the poster who said that they were in mid-bite and thought "I can't swallow this". I have that happen all the time!

I've only been on met a few days and my appetite has dramatically decreased- for one, I am scared to eat- the side effects make me carb-wary. Another thing is that I think about how eating all those sugary or carb laden snacks/drinks are gonna make the metformin have to work harder than it should- and maybe be less effective.
So I'm sure by the end of the week I will a few pounds lighter after all these drugs kick in- the spiro, met.... blah

Yes, I have been Met for nearly two months and I have completely gone off food. I have not had many other side effects apart from this. I struggle to eat breakfast so I can take my morning Met and then for dinner I find I have to eat a few biscuits just so I can take my Met. I had Endo last year and I need to maintain a healthy diet but I just cant do it. I have completely gone off food!

I have been on met since last sunday, and its been a struggle to eat also. and if i even look at something sugary i get nauseous. but yesterday i had this really weird thing happen to me...i was washing dishes at my kitched sink and i started to feel more and more light-headed, like i was going to faint. so i made my way the the couch and sat down, and then i started to feel nauseated too. has this ever happened to any of you ladies? I did manage to eat yesterday, so i know thats not what it was..

I have not had this problem of not being hungry... but AF started the day before I started taking my met.... I think that must be the reason behind it. Thanks for the heads up though... now I will know what to watch for next week. The dr started me on 500 mg, but didn't tell me to increase or anything, only to come back in next month.

Dx’ed PCOS 5/05 and Endo 11/06 Meds: Wellburtin, slow iron and Prenatals
It definitely affected my appetite at first. Nothing sounded good! After a few months now, most of the time I have a normal appetite. I rarely get the "have to eat now" moods any more, but just like the others, I will go through phases where nothing sounds or tastes good to me.
Hi. I'm new here. I was diagnosed a few years ago but didn't start taking meds for it (except for bcp) until Feb '05 when I started making a stink about it b/c my hair began falling out. My doc has increased my dosage on my met from 1000 to 1500 in April and that's when my appetite disappeared. I have to make myself eat or my blood sugar drops too low. I don't feel like eating but I have to or else I end up in the bathroom. Most times I just forget to eat which is strange to me. I used to be able to eat to the point of being completely stuffed and I enjoyed it! Now just the idea of that makes me nauseated. Of course now, the idea of eating healthy stuff turns me off but if the opportunity of donuts or anything with crumbs presents itself, oh boy!
