Default Loss of appetite?

I just started taking Metformin again TTC #2. I really didn't have any side effect last time but this time I have noticed that I have rather loose BM (sorry TMI) and my appetite hasn't been very good. Is this a common side effect? (I'm not big and don't need to lose weight especially now that I'm TTC.)

I am on 750mg right now (moving up to1500) I thankfully dont have diarrhea.
I have had a loss of appetite and have lost my binge cravings.
I have never been more happier in my life! I feel like my carb and sugar foods are finally under control!

YES, i can really tell a difference. I took 2000mg. back a few years ago and never noticed any s/e.
I started 500mg XR and was so nauseous i couldn't even function, so they switched me to the regular Met 500mg. and I took it for the last 2 weeks and just switched to 1000mg. yesterday! I did have to run to the bathroom this morning, but i've been eating what I normally eat, just not as much because I'm not very hungry. I also used to crave sweets constantly and since taking the Met this round i haven't wanted anything sweet, it's just no appealing at all. I also can't eat fried foods, which I don't eat very often anyways, but everything seems to taste to strong to me!
I am a thin cyster (average) whatever. I am 5'9 and weigh around 150, although i've lost 5 lbs. since starting this Met.
I'll have to say i'm definitely getting the nausea s/e this time, but hope it wil pass soon, as maybe it's actually working this time around!

Unhappy Please tell me it get's better!

Hey cysters!,
just a little background on me.I am on my 3rd day of metformin, I am 34, 5'2 now 150lbs after having lost 12lbs on my own with diet and excercise. I am IR and don't have regular periods. Also no man in my life at the mo so not ttc. Doctor suggested metformin to help regulate my cycles and I was controlling my glucose pretty well through excercise and diet.Blood work showed my 3 month average in the 90's. I am a veggie and eat pretty healthy! I work out 5-6 times a week for an hour sometimes more, but am now on metformin, and my weightloss is slow! I hope that I can come off the metformin once I have lost weight because these side effects are tough to take!.I started off on Sunday with 500mg in the moring at breakastwith a (blueberry healthy smoothie) and the next 500mg at dinner (prescribed 1000mg) and didn't have any side effects then yesterday felt a litle nauseated and felt like a had some heartburn to, slight loss of appetite and then felt the same today and got worse by the evening, I really wanted to puke bad! I have had a loss of appetite since yesterday, even the smell of food makes me gag! and then late this evening had the runs!! my ? is does this get better? I don't know how long I can take it!
good luck to everyone on metformin whether they are ttc or not.

1000mg is too much! Start with 500mg.

I'm having this problem also. And I'm also kinda scared to eat because I'm afraid I'll get sick because I HAVE been getting sick.

So today I took one 500mg in the morning and will continue with one for 1-2 weeks and then I will try the second dose.I feel much better having taken one, there is some slight nausea but my appetite is better, i don't want to loose weight through not eating due to loss of appetite I want to do it the right way, my only concern is will the 500mg be enough to bring on a cycle? probably not but will have to see. I would say eat small and stay away from high fat foods, yougurt helps my tummy and for the nausea i grated some ginger into some boiling water with some honey and drank that, i think it helped some.Perhaps you should also try one dose for a while and then up slowly, I called my doctor this morning and she also said try one and then up it when you feel ready.I hope it works!

The body has to get used to the dosage. Many women here get sick if they dont work up to the high mg.
Most docs will tell their patients that, but some may not.

Aquababy-I'm supposed to be taking 1000mg right now, but I'm only at 750mg. I took 1000mg on Monday and I felt really awful, so I went back to 750mg. Thanks for the advice with the yogurt! I'll def. have to try that one!!!

Hi Sarah
I took 1 500mg yesterday at breakfast and did the same today, I have to let my body get used to it as the women on this board have mentioned. The nausea is much better with 1 and my appetite is coming back. I eat either yougurt or some low fat cottage cheese with my smoothie. I think the dairy helps to soothe the tummy and def try the ginger for nausea, it won't make it go away but it does help, perhaps after a week I will try to take the second 500mg, if I feel sick I'll go back to the 500mg for another week.My goal is to have periods without BC so i'll have to up my dose in time to the 1000mg.

How long does one wait before upping their dose? I'm just wandering how long it may take my body to get used to the 500mg.

I took the 500mg. for 2 weeks before moving up. My RE said to move up in 1 week, but I wanted to take my time! You can always move up after a week and if it's too rough on you, you could go back down for a week.
