Default Lost in Dr's hell!

HI!

Well, I have come to a cross road and I do not know what to do. (Brief history)
No AF, sent to RE, dx PCOS, treated with met, doctor moved pratice, Got new RE, treated with Gluc. xr, insurance changed. Dunn not covered. 2 years later.... saw gyn not an RE, doesnt seem to think that I have PCOS, wants D&C since i have abnormal bleeding.. cancelled D&C becuase of Thyroid problems. Sent me to PCP for treatment.

Ok, So here is where I need the advice.... Should I ask my PCP to send me to an RE that is on my insurance or should I just keep going the way that I am going? I guess I dont like to have to bounce from dr to dr. But, I had 2 doctors say that I have PCOS, and this latest one does not seem convinced.!? Dont know ... lost in dr's hell!

Thanks!

Kara

Ewww, sorry you're having to go through this. What a pain. Unfortunately, this "bouncing" from doctor to doctor is not an uncommon occurrence with PCOS women. We get the "lose weight then I'll treat you" crap, or the "PCOS is not real" crap ALL THE TIME from doctors who are ignorant either by accident or by design.

Good for you for not settling for this mediocre treatment. PCOS is a VERY real, VERY treatable condition, but it needs managed, just like any other chronic condition.

Towards that end, if I were you, I would immediately seek a referral to a Reproductive Endocrinologist and go to him/her for treatment. Even if you are not actively trying to conceive at this time, you still need to have the PCOS managed. If you DON'T have PCOS, the R.E. should still be able to treat you and diagnose a cause for your abnormal menses, and point you in a direction to go for day-to-day management. You owe it to yourself and your body to demand the treatment you deserve.

Good luck!
